How long can I leave my 1070 with stock thermal paste

I'm doing some work on my PC on Friday (new case and mobo) and was wondering if its getting to the point where its worth replacing the thermal compound on my GTX 1070 founders edition since its going to be out anyway. I bought it second hand in February of this year and as far as i can tell its never been opened to have the thermal paste replaced and it does run kinda hot at times (82oC under a "12%" load) but I did crank the power limit in MSI afterburner so that's kinda expected anyway.

In my opinion thermalpaste should be replaced every 3 years, or when the card gets hotter for no reason.

Motherboard tier list. Tier A for overclocking 5950x. Tier B for overclocking 5900x, Tier C for overclocking 5800X. Tier D for overclocking 5600X. Tier F for 4/6 core Cpus at stock. Tier E avoid.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

( You can overclock Tier C just fine, but it can get very loud, that is why it is not recommended for overclocking, same with tier D)

4-5 years is usually about the limit for GPU paste IMO. Also those temps do seem pretty high, so it's a pretty good idea to repaste the card.

if it's running at 80c+, time to clean it, and repaste at the same time since you'll need to disassemble the blower cooler

As long as the GPU runs below 75C and you do not observe temp rises over time you don't have to repaste it...

80-83c is when the card will downclock itself to stay in it's thermal target. So once your card gets stuck there consistently (and it wasn't doing that before) it is time for a clean and possible repaste. In your case I'd say it for sure is time.
