SAS card recommanded by Jake

What is the model and company of the card?

Typically the recommended cards are lsi sas hba like the 9207-8i, and simmilar(there are a lot of different models).

 

LSI doesn't exist any more and have been bought up twice now, so now its a part of broadcom for new ones, but for hdds, Id just get the used ones on ebay. As the post above says, LSI cards used on eBay are what you want. I run a Dell h310, lots of them used on eBay. Flash them to IT mode to allow ZFS to directly interact with them, and your good to go (many on eBay Coke flashed to IT mode already, but you can do it relatively easily as well yourself). 
 

The Dell h310 is just the Dell branded version, lots of similar options tho.
