AMD Ryzen 5 5600x Pin Broke Off

Would appear to be ECC memory checking for mem channel 2

Hi there,

I have one Pin on my Ryzen 5 5600x that broke off. From my research its the "MA_CHECK[2]" Pin. Any idea what that function is or what it does? I think it might be memory related.

The computer does still boot though even without that one pin. Any risks of damaging my motherboard or any other components? both my memory sticks show up on bios.

I've circled the pin that broke off.

Thanks,

Hmm, you might be okay? i think its for ECC memory checks? so if your not running ECC memory you might be okay. Maybe time to backup your drives, just in case 🙂

Unless you are running ECC memory, it doesn't matter at all.

There's RAM sticks with ECC and there's RAM sticks without ECC.

Most regular desktop ram is without ECC and the default ram sticks don't have ECC.

ECC involves an extra tiny ram chip on the stick which holds error checking and correction information. The CPU can use that information to make sure the data is transferred correctly to or from ram.

The CPU may function perfectly fine without that pin, if the role of that pin is to retrieve ECC information, because the ram sticks have no ecc chip, so there's nothing to retrieve.

You can repair the chip, for example Northridgefix does it but not sure if it's worth it .... they probabl charge at least 50$ for the repair below:

if you have to ask, you dont (and all ecc kits have 'ecc' in the name.

you're fine. as long as you dont hit any critically important pins, even if a pin necessary for a pcie lane is gone, you can still run without that pcie lane.
