New CPU, MoBo, & maybe cooler?

Budget (including currency): CAD. As cheap as possible

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Just need to replace my 9700k

Other details: Long story short, need to get a new motherboard. To do that, I need a new CPU. Don't want to buy used. Was looking at ethier a 5700x or 12600k. With my current config, going for the 12600k would be about $70 dollars more. Is it worth it?

(Prices including tax)

Pick your poison honestly. Just be aware that since the 12600K have P and E cores, you need Windows 11 for it to work properly afaik.

im pretty sure 12th gen came out before windows 11, why would you NEED it? sure it might be better optimized for windows 11 but everything else isnt. best going for windows 10.

You could get an LGA 1700 bracket for the Hyper 212 instead of a new cooler. Doing so would bring the cost inline with the 5700X and offer much better performance.

I would go intel myself. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Z964nt` this would be what i would do.
The arctic Freezer duo should be plenty strong enough for this cpu, if you can afford it go with the Scythe Fuma 2, or even an AIO, id recommend this one https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/c4MTwP/arctic-liquid-freezer-ii-240-563-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-acfre00046a
ASrock is a really decent board, 4 m.2 slots, PCIE 1, 2, 3 and 4, 6 SATA ports, really good budget board, if you are overclocking use Z690 as this is an unlocked cpu, same mbd comes in Z690 (https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/RPYmP6/asrock-z690-steel-legend-atx-lga1700-motherboard-z690-steel-legend)
If you have a GPU you dont really need Integrated Graphics, this one doesnt have Integrated graphics

That's not including tax. 12% on everything. Besides, I'm not looking for a major upgrade, just something to replace my 9700k

I was told by another user that the Freezer Duo wasn't really the best option for my case. (See preivous post) Ended up finding the Thermalright for a really good price. Is there anything inherently bad about the Thermalright or is it just not widely regarded. Not a fan of AIO's plus I'm using an H500 which basiclly is a non starter right there.

The ASRock seems ok. I don't have any need for more than two SATA connectors and I don't use M.2 so that kind of defeats the purpose. Plus the Gigabyte has more USB. More importantly, I'd like to stay away from Newegg. I know people who have had bad experience with their RMA + with the Gamers Nexus drama, I've lost trust with them as a retailer. Vuugo just looks very sketchy.

I suppose that I could lose the iGPU, however it does come in handy when troubleshooting.

How was I supposed to know what taxes apply where you live?

ive never heard of Thermalright if its better and you are willing to spend the extra money then go for it,  i know Freezer Duo is a really good air cooler hence why i suggested it.
why dont you use m.2s? What are you using for a boot drive? an m.2 NVME SSD is gonna be what most ppl use as a boot drive as its signifigantly faster than a HDD or even a SATA SSD (see for yourself here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3AMz-xZ2VM). do you just mean you dont need more than 1 m.2 for your boot?
Newegg has always been a go-to for me and ive never had any issues, couldve been newegg sellers or the fact i live in america though.
keeping IGPU is fine you just said you wanted it so since its cheaper without the IGPU i went without it. mot people wouldnt even notice much of a difference in most applications without IGPU what kind of troubleshooting are you doing where you need it?

almost any 12th gen CPU should be a huge upgrade

You weren't. Thats why I was informing you.

I already have a SATA SSD. It works fine for my use case and I don't have a particular need for faster speeds right now.

The reason why I mentioned that was that when I was having issues with this system, having the iGPU was similar to having another GPU to test with. I suppose that is a very niche reason but it did come in handy.

Before @RONOTHAN## mentioned it to me, I never heard of Thermalright either. Looking at some reviews, it seems like it's pretty good. It's the same price as the Freezer Duo so both are contenders.

Yes, but I don't need a 12700k level upgrade.

You don't NEED it. But afaik Windows 10 can get confused by E cores and P cores, which can reduce performance in certain scenarios. Windows 11 does not have this problem.

Therefore, unless they have backported the updated scheduler to W10, I would highly recommend that you use W11 with 12th gen. But Windows 10 will install and work fine most of the time.
