PPI calculation for monitor

Using the pathegorean theorem and a calculator you can see that a 1360x768 monitor at 13in (what I have now) has a ppi of around 117. And a 1080p 24 inch monitor is 91 ppi. I am wondering if the 24 inch monitor would still look better. I use upscaling on my monitor (gpu scaling) to 1440p so it does't look bad. If native 720p looks bad (117ppi) then will 1080p(91ppi) look worse?

Depends on the pixel matrix it uses tbh. Nobody goes through the trouble of mass manufacturing 15.6" 768p amoled display, its always TN or IPS at best.

You can use https://www.sven.de/dpi/  to calculate ppi and pixel size.

 

Windows native DPI is 96 dpi - that is the closest the monitor is to this value, the more you can correlate with real life objects ... as in you could have Microsoft Word open on a blank A4 or Letter sheet at 100% zoom, and put an actual sheet of paper on the screen and they'll be the same size.

120 dpi or 144 dpi would be good values, because you can enable text scaling at  1.25x or 1.5x  and it will look right ...

 

Yeah 24" at 1080p is a nice match, 22.5" is a bit low but still OK ... 27" starts to be a bit too big pixels when you're so close to the monitor.

To be simple on size v/s best look in resolution.

• Wide: 24" - 1080p, Ultrawide: 29" 1080p
• Wide: 27" - 1440p, Ultrawide: 34" 1440p, Super Ultrawide: 49" 1440p
• Wide: 32" and above - 4k
