Intel vs Amd. Worth waiting for i3-1220P or go with R5 5500U? Also how does adaptive sync work in Intel laptops with an external monitor?

i3 1220P seems to be around the same price as an R5 5500U laptop where I live, which is better? I'll be using it for studying and some light gaming.

I already have a monitor that supports freesync and want to make sure the laptop im buying will be able to make use of it.

How does adaptive sync work in Intel laptops? It's supported only over DP but laptops only seem to have HDMI ports. Do I just buy an adapter?
I know AMD supports freesync over hdmi.

intel's iGPUs are crap, unless you get one with XE Graphics.  (And the 1220 doesn't seem to be.)

The 5500U will have much better graphic performance.
