Vega 56 to RTX 2080 -- how much of an upgrade is it?

Posted (edited)

Got a deal here in the UK for a second hand 2080 for £350. Considering I'd be able to sell my old Vega 56 for at least £250, that's ~£100 for the upgrade. What do you guys think about that? Seems like a pretty good deal for the card in the current market, and I've been wanting to upgrade the Vega with its heat and loud blower fan as well as get away from AMD's beautiful but still kind of broken drivers. But I'm not sure how much of a performance upgrade I'd actually be getting? The Vega is flashed with a 64 bios, oc'd and undervolted and is performing about on par/better than a 1080 depending on the game.

I run 1080p 144Hz, looking at a 1440p upgrade in the near future. Also the Vega stutters like crazy in Elden Ring which I'm partially hoping a 2080 might solve despite the optimisation of that game being the real issue, rather than horsepower itself.

Thank you!

2080 over Vega 56 is a huge upgrade, Vega 56 is a GTX 1070, rtx 2060 alternative, a bit over rtx 3050.

But it all depends on the rest of your system. If the CPU is from the Vega 56 era or older, it will bottleneck the 2080 a lot.

I am not allowed to have my PC specs in my signature.
