Hard to say if they are the same. You should be able to get it to work either way, but you might have to set timings manually. Personally I would just get a 32 gb kit instead. But dont be fooled, if it's only for gaming, then 32gb wont make a difference.

CPU: i7 9700K@5ghz all core (silence + summer)

cache x47, AVX offset 0

Motherboard: Asus Maximus XI Hero

RAM: Patriot Viper Steel 2x8gb@3733mhz @jedec cl15

PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750 G3

Mon:  LG 27GL850-B, 144Hz Nano IPS - G-Sync compatible/Freesync

GPU: EVGA 1080ti SC Black Edition w/ G12 bracket

Sound: Odac + Fiio E09K

Case: Fractal Design R6 TG Blackout

Storage: MP510 960gb and 860 Evo 500gb

Cooling: CPU: Kraken X62 - GPU: Kraken X42(RIP) -> X53 (From RMA)

I know that you will usually hear from people that you shouldn't mix different ram models. But really something like Fury 3200Mhz CL16 should work just fine with those, and they aren't hard to find in the market. XMP should sort the speeds and timings just fine. If not, you can manually set them to 3000Mhz CL15. As the above answer suggested, make sure your use case needs it, as there's no reason to go above 16GB just for gaming nowadays.

You can also set timings separately for channel A and B. Put both modules from one kit in the same channel and you have some room to adjust if needed. But chances are they will work with the XMP settings from the slower kit.

I mixed my RAM, it needed manual tuning but it worked just fine.

Now for it to have best chance of success you should make sure both kits sticks have same memory chips!

For me it was 2x8 and 2x8 of Samsung C-DIE so they were easilly compatible once manual tunning was done.
