Help: Be quiet! Dark Power 12 1000W PSU (Titanium) - Clicking noise under load (Playing games)

DutchManXL

Hi All,

I recently bought the PSU 'Be quiet! Dark Power 12 1000W PSU (Titanium)' and when playing games I hear a clicking noise coming from the PSU.  Also on each windows start up I hear all case fans go berserk high rpm till I'm logged in windows then it goes to normal.

Can you guys give me some advise please what to do? Return the PSU or change the connection?

Thanks in advance!

case fans go berserk has nothing to do with psu, but with motherboard and cpu

You seem to have some choice regarding which plugs are populated on the psu, did you try alternatives ?

Your psu is very silent otherwise

I'm willing to swim against the current.

I will try to connect the GPU with 2 cables each on 1 12v rail connection maybe that will help. What about if the clicking noise persists after? And the case fan's going berserk I know that has nothing to do with the PSU, but I thought I would mention it maybe some one has some fix for that also for me.

About berserk, I know with DC fans, the motherboard goes "all in" when booting

How to adjust that behavior that it won't go into full rpm mode?

You can't.

The motherboard is trying to determine the RPM range of the fans since not all fans have the same max RPM.

The only way around this is to use a separate fan controller like a Commander Pro or something.

He could go PWM.

(he hasn't confirmed he runs DC fans, which would be surprising nowadays)

If you, in fact, run PWM fans, it might be that your motherboard bios is set for "fans All In" while in windows you have an app going for silence.

In that case go in the bios and change its setting

  • 8 months later...

I have exactly the same issue after running RTX 4090 in combination with Be quiet! Dark Power 12 1000W PSU (Titanium). Clicking sound / noise coming from the PSU when graphics card is highly utilized. Mostly when playing games with high FPS and high power draw. I do not care about the sound itself much as my case is closed and I use headphones when playing game so I cannot hear it while playing.

The PC is stable but i'm concerned about longevity of the PSU and mainly expensive graphics card.

My PC specs are similar like yours.

CPU: Ryzen 5900X

MB: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS

RAM: G.Skill DDR4 Trident-Z 2x16GB 3600Mhz

GPU: MSI RTX 4090

Did you manage is somehow, maybe RMA the PSU or do you keep it running?

You should make your own thread for assistance. I am sorry for the trouble you are having.
