My PC wouldn't turn on when I press power button

Polizei004

When I pressed the power button the pc wouldn't turn on no fans no led the USB devices seem to have power. This has happened before but it fixed itself. Now it's happening again the PC is 2 years old with a Ryzen 5 3500 and Radeon RX 590 the mbd is Gigabyte B450M Aorus Elite and the psu is Cooler Master 650W. I wanna what part causing this problem my PC has other problems too like I cannot run my graphics card at stock speed I had to undervolt and undervlock it to run games. The motherboard has died before but it that time it would turn on but wouldn't have display output I used warranty to fix it. Idk if I should buy a new Motherboard or a new power supply and the case of GPU not being able to run at full speed is it the GPu or PSU or Mbds fault?

Can you try a different GPU?

from the looks of it, if it does turn on but you have to reduce the power limits, i would highly recommend upgrading your power supply to 750 or 850 watts, as an r590, afaik is a rather power hungry card

Imagine everything i have written in a Linus Voice/ linus tone (Spock live long and prosper gif here ,idk why tho, i guess i just want to say that i like star trek and am waiting for new seasons of the ongoing shows), But seriously, a lot of what i type only makes sense when said in a Linus tone from an older ltt video (circa 2017-2019 & now 2024-onwards) basically before he got a beard and a lot of it should make sense even in a Linus with a beard face.

also note as per the latest typing test on my laptop, my accuracy is 69%

I'm not weird/creepy, I'm just observant I have ADHD and am not on any meds for it.

From this part, I guess the power supply juice didn't get enough juice? My assumption, the PSU getting killed slowly because you actually used it close-to it's maximum power, like, constantly, and power supplies don't like to be forced to run on it's max rated power for long. Did you ever monitor how much wattage you use?

As @Indian pc builder said, you might have to change your PSU.

Really depends. I see you're using already-enough CPU+chipset+mobo to accomodate that GPU (except if you accidentaly using PCI-e 2.0 speed on UEFI or so), so perhaps it's more on PSU constraints.

But aside all of above, try to:

  1. Use a different mobo and PSU. If it works, you got the problem. But if it's still having a problem... Go to 2.
  2. Use a different GPU.

Humor me, as you should do.

not bad ideas, but we don't know if he has that option yet, so i would say the safest option is a new psu as your gonna need that anyway, and just try with the current setup, if it works great, otherwise i would recommend you go to these steps, posted by @TukangUsapEmenq see the psu seems to be the component that has most likely died here, and the gpu and the motherboard are next on the list as they are both equally likely to die

Does it power up when you jumpstart the motherboard?

What's the exact model of the Cooler Master PSU?

if you're having to underclock/undervolt the gpu to get games to work it's not the fault of the motherboard

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

If the pc really doesnt do anything on pressing the power button I cant imagine the gpu is causing this. You can rule it out even by removing the gpu. You wont have video output but the pc should at least turn on.

Indeed jumpstart the motherboard as @--SID--says to rule out the button itself.

Also check if the psu turns on with a psu tester or paperclip (google it, just be sure to double check the pins!)

If the psu turns on with the paperclip but it doesnt when connected to the motherboard then I guess the motherboard would be the cause.
