Ram Overclock issue help (solved)

Good Evening Folks!

 

I am attempting to overclock my Gskill Trident Neo sticks to there rated speeds. In the bios I have manually set the rated speed and it still shows the 2133 stock specs in the far right of the bios. Windows and Hwinfo also report it only being 2133 even though it should be set to 4000mhz. I have tried clearing cmos just in case and the same result.

First, are you enabling XMP or are you just setting the memory frequency to 4000 and hoping for the best. If it's the second, that's your problem. Second, what are your specs and what is the exact memory kit model number? I'm assuming it's the same as what's in your signature but I wanna be sure. 

 

Odds are it's just not applying. The 5950X generally scales inversely past 3800MHz thanks to the infinity fabric, and 4000 might not even post. Plus, there are a couple BIOS versions on Aorus boards where the memory support is just broken, and it's possible that you are running one of those.

Let me verify my bios version, was just thinking that. I swapped my ram from my corsair to a Gskill set -

Just to confirm, are you just running 2x16GB or did you buy 2 32GB kits and plan on running 4x16GB? If it's the seconds, run Thaiphoon burner to read the SPD for all 4 sticks, it's possible that you got 2 different kits with different memory chips on them. Thaiphoon Burner should be able to verify whether they're identical or different.

 

Anyway, you'll have to try and run this at 3800MHz 18-22-22-42 @ 1.4V.

Achieving 2000 FCLK is much easier to do on a single CCD chip. My 5600X is stable with 2 sticks at 2000 FCLK, and it can bench at 2100, 1:1 of course. My 5900X can only do 1900 FCLK stable, it doesn't matter if its with 2 of 4 sticks. It can run some benches at 2000 but it really is just a WHEA generator at that point. If you want to run them that fast you have to learn to overclock.

I updated my bios to the newest version and I setup the overclock on the modules. It shows it stuck in bios and active but in windows still shows only 2133 and 1066 in hwinfo

So I went to double check everything and I can boot and post with the overclock set. here is a photo

Off to the right it shows the 2143 and windows still reports 2133 and hwinfo still showing the 1066

Solved my problem!!!!

 

Realized I made a rookie mistake and populated A1 and B1 and was supposed to load A2 and B2. Now its working just fine.......
