speed difference with dedicated IP vs VPN

Working

Hi,

I'll be traveling soon and sometimes the websites that I need to get access to are blocked in those countries. I can use a VPN but it ends up really slowing down the speed and I was wondering if using a dedicated IP address would be faster than a VPN and if so by how much? I tried googling it but no luck.

I don't want to go from 50Mbps down to like 16Mbps.

I only use PIA as a VPN and I know I can assign to only use the VPN for certain application but that doesn't solve my problem. I need all the traffic to and from my computer to go through it.

Thank you

Nope. What matters for speed, is the protocol and your latency to the server. Latency will vary depending on a lot of factora and there is nothing you can do about that.

What exactly do you mean by "dedicated IP"?

You mean you get assigned a dedicated IP by the ISP? That will not unblock content if it is blocked in the country you are in. You would still need to use a VPN to get around geoblocks.

Do you mean your VPN provider has the option to allow you to get a static IP? In that case it will most likely not affect your speeds. You're still going to be sending traffic over the VPN to some other country, which is probably where the speed penalty comes from.

You might be able to get better speeds by playing around with which country you connect to.
