Light/dark mode based on system setting.

drdrewnatic

I'm not a developer so I don't know how hard this would be to implement but it would be nice if the forum could switch light/dark theme based on your system theme. I have a program which switchs my systems theme based on time of day but the forum doesn't respect that. This is more QoL than anything but it would be convenient.

I don't remember if this particular suggestion has been made before. But it would require forum to make extra pings to your browser/system to get that info. Not sure how many of members likes that. Like, think about all the moneys we could get by selling that info onwards...

Or whether its even possible when times change has been shot down so many times in past as both impractical and too hard to implement.

Hmm. Makes sense. Agian, not a huge deal, it would have been only for pure convenience.

If the pc is in high contrast/dark mode, firefox will be too.

I don't think you fully understand what I was asking. I'm talking about the forum, not my browser. The forum has to implement a feature that detects which theme you have. My browser changes with no issues.

The theme system isn't built to support this, so it would not be particularly easy to implement unfortunately.

Hmm? Browsers readily give up whether you configured them to be in light or dark mode, for precisely this use case.

Thanks, I'd already thought about it but checking out the Feature Suggestions of the Invision forum however, it appears they are mainly targeted to admins in charge of forums, not the users though I could be wrong. So unless @colonel_mortis  would post on behalf of the forum (which I doubt he would as I imagine this is pretty low on the list of priorities), I can't see it coming to light.

Please don't make suggestions to them directly - post suggestions here, then we evaluate them for feasibility and pass them on to ips if appropriate. In this case, a proper solution would take a substantial redesign of the theme system, so it is pretty unlikely that ips would pick it up when they don't even offer a dark theme of their own.
