Trackpad not working on toshiba laptop after installing ubuntu 20.04

It's been a few months since i switched to ubuntu 20.04 on my toshiba l850 laptop. And trackpad hasn't been working ever since. I know it's not a hardware problem because it works on windows (installed by default). Plugging in a usb mouse works and that's how i've been using it. But I'm tired of carrying an external mouse around.

It might be a driver issue but I'm not really sure about it. There are drivers available for trackpad of this laptop but they're all for windows.

I've been trying to debug it ever since but it never really worked out. Would be glad if any of you can help thanks.

Laptop: toshiba l850 (probably 2013 model)

BIOS: Insyde bios

Processor: intel i5 3230M (64 bit) (upgraded from the default processor)

Memory: 4GB kingston SODIMM DDR3 1600MHz

sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

It is already installed but the trackpad still does not work.

Thanks though.

Recently installed PopOS and it's working just fine.
