Folding@Home launches only when on "while im working" is checked

Ive just downloaded folding@home as i got a new computer with some massive computational power and launched a fold but,
i noticed that even if my computer has just firefox, discord and folding@home opened, if its set to launch on iddle, it wont.
 

So ive set it to launch only when i work for this night to do a fold but tomorrow im gonna play some games and i dont want it to launch,

What am i supposed to do to fix that ?

Welcome to the fold!

 

First, make sure you have registered for a PassKey as it will greatly enhance your points.

 

Secondly please consider joining the LTT team # 223518 if you haven't already.

 

Here is the documentation for the slider and knobs in the Web UI. What I suspect you want is to tick the box "only when idle".

 

Most folks just use the Advanced Control (found in your Taskbar) but it may be a little more difficult to setup. You can also set the folding power slider there but I'm not certain where the "only when idle" box is but worst case you can just hit "pause" when your gaming and "resume" when your done. Many here report they can still run games when folding on their GPU but YMMV and you may need to lower the number of CPU cores used.

 

I'd suggest just running it for a while then figure out what your pain points are and come back here and we'll be happy to help.

Addendum.

 

Did some quick research and it appears the "only when working" can be a bit buggy and under Windows requires you to run a blank screensaver to run somewhat reliably.

 

I don't fold on my Daily Driver Windows machine (I run BOINC on half it's CPUs and have a GPU for Productivity rather than gaming) but I have several other "headless" systems running Linux that do Fold so they just run continuously when the electricity is cheaper here.

 

But I'm sure there are others here that have run into that issue and may be able to offer suggestions.
