Hey, buffer overflows we talked about them in my security class, though we also talked about how to prevent them since I think it is able to be obvious from the weirdness that the jailbreak can do. For the whole Linux stuff I feel like I remember hearing that the PS3 was a bit easier for the running of Linux even if its architecture is a bit weird. I wonder is Adam sentient boooooooger who wrote the downloaded more RAM video? The style of showcasing multiple levels of a particular exploit/unusual aspect of PC hardware felt similar.

Just wanted to point out, that you choose how much GB of Video memory (VRAM) you allocate for Linux.

Linux 1G = 1GB VRAM

Linux 2G = 2GB VRAM

etc..

That might be why Anthony had poor performance gaming on Linux.

I believe that LTT Releases are exempt from this as seen from the video about Microsoft Edge on the Xbox Series X where they explicitly acknowledge in the video that due to software limitations the sole version of emulation of games that they can do on the xbox using the browser is the most illegal they do not recommend doing it type.

It was interesting to watch but... I'm guessing this is every LMG employee right now:

KIBY.gif

Also they've done this in the past, I don't recall this being brought up then.

If it don't say, no exemption exists. Tho I think they did put the same warning in this video, but still.

Don't buy a Switch Pro because OG Switch is hackable. But don't buy an OG Switch because you can hack the Wii U. But Wii is hackable so buy that instead of a Wii U. But you can hack Gamecube so don't get a Wii. And N64 has flashcarts so get that instead of Gamecube. But so does SNES, so don't get N64 either. And you can hack NES with a flashcart so lets forget the SNES. So in conclusion, don't buy a Switch Pro, buy an NES.

Essentially what they are doing via "Buffer Overflow" isn't that different than what a Gameshark used to do for a PSX or a Game Genie would do for a NES/SNES.
Not going into how all that works, I'll have to let you guys do your own research but it does remind me of it.

Oh I had always assumed for Game Genie/game shark older stuff it was just that there was never coding to prevent writing from most values so it was doing more so a form of non-buffer overflow code execution. Since isn't buffer overflow actually not that hard to prevent if you use stuff like fgets and a few other coding tricks?

This is a cool technical achievement by the exploit makers, but I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to do this on a console they intend to use to game. No PSN/online updates of any kind, pretty bad performance, and it just gets you the ability to make some existing games jankier.

Great for 100% achievement hunters to do on their spare console, go OOB, and just really figure out new paths/ways to play the game. Not useful to bad if your PS4 just meant primarily for playing games.

And maybe it's just me, but I would absolutely never click on that sketchy .ir link.

Is the same reason that they show piracy and more on their channel, while Linus is totally against it. The reason is just to make money

I'm pretty sure Linus has not said he's against piracy both on the WAN show and in LTT videos he regularly shows or mentions doing things that are legally considered piracy, most obviously being the burning his blu-rays onto a Plex Media server that he, his family, and friends all use. In Canada for software which I'm pretty sure the data on blu-rays would count as you can only have a single copy that you create as a back-up and his use case is definitely not that. There's also him stating he would pirate the next Mario Party if they don't patch the current one to fix some annoying issues in terms of how slow it starts.

I thought the whole thing is that he thinks people should be aware that you are hurting the creators, and in these cases he's fine with that.

It's big vs small. LMG is tiny compared to the likes of Nintendo, or Disney. Plus, when you are "pirating" games that haven't been sold in 5+ years, are you really pirating (in that it benefits no-one and negatively effects no-one)? To clarify, I'm agreeing with you, and offering clarifying points.
