The new ltt official forums are above the hub, and its frustrating because i use those often, and I don't want to untoggle this section just to have the hub at the top

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Yeah I 100% agree the official section just gets in the way maybe we should have a moving section at the top so the most recently active threads/or sections like technews could be at the top

I have an ASUS G14 2021 with Manjaro KDE and I am a professional Linux NoOB and also pretty bad at General Computing.

Imo its just about getting used to new layout, nothing more. If you look at any other major forum, the official/housekeeping subforums are on top, before general discussion subs start.

There's slight things to do, maybe. Like I would have liked Store and Sponsors to be subs for LTT Official rather than whole subs.

That's not the issue,

Most people don't frequently use the forums in that group as other forums,so it's an inconvenience and in the way when you put them in the top.

I had rather have the changes completely reverted since to me it seems like a waste of space on the main page.

But putting that category at the bottom will be fine as well.

Then again, this is LMG forum and essentially for their self-promotion. If you don't have need to read forums in that section, you can minimize it.

i'm just going to paste this from my Status update

If they want to push a more LTT first forum as opposed to LTT community first, then great, but then they had better actually use the newly created subforums more than once every few weeks and actually have more input from LMG staff instead of the random occasional reply in topics.

essentially:

  • Give feedback to people's ideas about merch so we don't have 100 people asking for the same, have an accepted and rejected ideas pinned thread or something.
  • Answer people's questions about merch before they buy
  • Give updates to sponsors as to whether or not you decided to go with them based on community feedback.

At the moment LMG staff are more like bots on the forum, they post something and then ignore the thread and seemingly disappear

at least the sponsorship discussion has really taken off on a good start. Will be interesting to see how consistent it is.

Haha, really? You're complaining that you have to select a little icon on the corner of a heading to have it basically back to normal? Why?

Seems awfully petty.

I imagine they have it set up like this for numerous reasons, one being that it's an LTT forum and they do what they want to self promote, and another is probably to cut down on people making threads related to those forums that constantly have to be dealt with by the mods.

I for one appreciate the change to the more brand exposure layout.

Brand exposure? Basically entire 1/3 of this webpage's width is dedicated to their entire channel portfolio (right side video list). How much more recognition do they need? Having entire first screen you see filled with subforums that are hardly ever updated makes no sense.

Maybe if they arrange it that people who aren't logged in see that first, but I don't hink forum software allows that while keeping it below for registered users.

@dizmo

No, it's not petty. Because if you collapse that section, you also collapse "LTT Releases" section where people comment on videos. So you end up having to constantly collapse and expand the stupid section because someone thought sticking it on top was a good idea. Move "LTT Releases" next to "News" section and the rest should go where it used to be.

here's a radical idea. How about let us customise the order they appear in or/and allow us to completely hide certain groups or forums ? Have a default order in which the groups appear in and have an option in the settings that allows a person to hide specific forums or groups or change the order they appear in.

You have to understand there is a whole segment of users on this forum who actually have no interest in LTT at best and hold LTT in active contempt at worst.

Your "PC master race" thing is cringe.

Number of posts in all "LTT Official" subforums in total: ~514K

Number of posts in "the hub": ~3371K

It's not about "getting used to it", the new layout makes it objectively more difficult to get to the things people actually want. It is straight up bad design from a user perspective.

People can get used to it, but people could get used to for example their computers taking 10 minutes to boot too. That doesn't mean we should artificially make computers boot slower.

"Get used to it" is such a hostile attitude to have when something becomes worse.

Not sure why people on this forum keep defending bad changes with "get used to it" or "you just don't like change" when it is clear that the change is bad for users. It doesn't just apply to this change but also changes from like Microsoft, Google and Apple.

Edit:

Just to be clear, I don't dislike change. I really like some changes. I only like changes when they are good though, and if the only responses to the change are "get used to it" or "it's their platform, they can do whatever they want" then that seems like the change is not putting the users wants and needs first, which is bad.

Personally, I just clicked the arrow to hide this section of the forum because I find it annoying having to scroll down to get to the subforums I actually want to use. It's good that that option is there, because I suspect that this change will just cause a lot of people to hide this section of the forum completely.

However, it is entirely possible that this change was made in order to improve those other sections. Maybe this change will result in fewer threads in the wrong subforum and thus the burden on moderators will decrease, or maybe people were unaware of these subforums and as a result of this change, the forum will become more "diverse" in terms of subforum activity. Although I doubt that second one since subforums even further down like "Graphics cards" were far more popular than LTT Official.

Anyway, if there are valid reasons for the change such as the examples I mentioned above then that's what should be brought up as arguments for the chance, not some rude and hostile "get used to it" followed by mockery of people who dislike seemingly bad changes.

Oh, I was just clicking at the second sub (tech news, for a really long time) without reading its name and wondering why there were only stuff from LTT, which would obviously be posted in the wrong place...

Using the script as is would pretty much bring back the forum to how it was before.

I personally just move Forum Info and LTT Releases to The Hub and then move LTT Official below The Hub. I don't hide LTT Official.

I get what they're doing.. They want more people to look at these forums and a wider opinion on those topics.

But there are people who have absolutely no interest in LTT and such people will hate change like these.
