Looking for recommendations to build around a GTX 1050

Uncle Kem

Budget:

Looking to spend around $1000 CAD

Location:

Ontario, Canada.

Will you be reusing any parts?

Yes, I would like to reuse and get advice about the best parts to build around my old Zotac GTX 1050 (not the ti)

Aim:

I want to play fps games at the best possible performance with the parts recommended.

I would also like to be able to do some video editing (using Sony Vegas)

I also would like to do some streaming in the future with my Playstation and Xbox (I have a Elgato HD60 Pro)

Any other special features that you want in the build?

I would like to have a SSD for Windows 10, games and a HDD for my other work.

Need 4-6 USB ports.

WiFi doesn't matter much, I'd rather use my Ethernet cord, but it would be a plus.

Monitors:

I have two 1080p monitors I also would like to use at once.

Why are you upgrading?

I've had the same computer build my brother made me for over 6 years and I would like to get another build but things are tough out there,

so I would like to see If anyone can help me understand what I could do(build), with the GPU I have now.

I guess I should list the parts I have now.

CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 (Stock Cooler)

Motherboard: ASRock H110M-HDS R3.0

RAM: 2x4GB DDR4 SDRAM (I think its 2133Mhz)

PSU: Sorry can't Remember.

GPU: Zotac GTX 1050

Maybe list a preference of case?

Something with or without a Disc Drive. If found with a disc drive, its a plus.

Also some USB ports would be cool.

cooling you prefer (air or liquid):

Air Cooling

Will you be overclocking?

If the parts recommended are perfect for it, sure.

I don't know about overclocking but I could give it a go.

This is my first post to the forum, I was really hesitant to ask. Please be kind. 🙂

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

You could consider selling your system with the GTX 1050, and adding that amount to your budget, and then see if you can get yourself an RTX 3050, which is actually planned to be released today.

If you can do that, it would put you in a great spot for the rest of the build.

I would just like to build around the GTX 1050 for now, I don't know how my luck will be trying to get a GPU.

If anyone can help me with parts that would be so kind.

Thank you.

Here's my take on a build using your GTX 1050.

This setup will allow you to experiment with overclocking, the case has great airflow, with a taste of RGB if you're into that, as well as a couple of usb inputs on the front.

Additionally, there's good speed ram, and a fast nvme drive.

Sorry for the late message back but I was just wondering if the build that you recommended here would work, if I was to get my hands on a RTX 3050 as well? I'm actually really contemplating trying to get a RTX 3050 now. Oh I forgot to ask. How good is the integrated graphics with the CPU you recommended? Will the CPU be able to run programs and low graphic games fine?

Hey, no worries.

Yes, the build will still work fine. I did make a small change to the PSU, and swapped in the MSI MPG A-GF 750w Gold unit.

That will be more than enough to handle your build.

The Intel igpu isn't great. AMD make better igpus as of right now with their Vega series.

The latest 12th gen alder lake igpus aren't bad. They can handle multiple screens, and some low res gaming, but they're no match for a dedicated GPU.

Hello Tech87!

It's been quite a while since I posted. I was just wondering if you or anyone else could help me with another build? Or should I make a new post?

I wanted to ask if a RTX 3050 will perform well with a Ryzen 5 5600x because

I was interested in a Ryzen 5 5600x build with a RTX 3050 for under $1000 cad.

RTX 3050 is already with me, so I would need just the remaining parts.

If its possible, to go with the lowest price on parts without effecting quality of performance.

Everything I'm looking for, for a PC, from my first post in here is still the same.

Would it even be worth it to go with a Ryzen over the Intel build you recommended?

Thanks for all your help with the Intel build, I just wish the CPU and motherboard were cheaper.

I feel like a help vampire coming back to ask for another build.

Thank you for your help again.
