Lop01

Hello, Im wondering if a PCIE 4.0 GPU would work with this Motherboard.

The gpu im looking to buy is the Radeon RX 6600 8GB. Thats right now and im probably going to go for a 3060Ti if i can find one but the question remains can i use my exsisting motherboard with the new GPU

Your RX 6600 will default to PCIE 3.0. You have no PCIE 4.0 accessibility on that board, so all cards above PCIE will run at 3.0.

PCIE is backwards compatible. It'll run at the lowest common denominator. In this case it would run at 3.0 x16 speeds.

You might have to go into BIOS and set PCIE to 3.0 instead of auto if it wants to be a bit unstable.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Yes, exactly half the bandwidth. It's fine, I run my GTX 980 (a 3.0 card) in a 2.0 slot. 6600 doesn't use too much bandwidth so should be OK.

Half the bandwidth, sure. But that doesn't mean the GPU will be half as fast, so that answer is a bit misleading. Depending on the GPU we're talking a few percent slower at most. However, there are some GPUs (like the 6500 XT) where it has more of an impact, because the GPU has fewer lanes and actually needs the extra bandwidth.

The key part about the 6600 is that it has only PCIe x8. If it was x16, there'd be no issue, because it wouldn't exceed the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0x16 regardless, but it will exceed PCIe 3.0x8.
