Motherboard to go with i5 12400f

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft/Minecraft servers 

I can't find a decent motherboard that can support an i5 12400f. Also would it be cheaper to go with a 5600x taking into account a different motherboard and not having to buy a cpu cooler.

B660 and H670 are the intended pairings, but it seems like their price will take some time to go normal in the Australian market.

Exactly which models though, cuz I can't find any that are at a decent price or are available in Australia, so would it be better to go with a 5600x because supported motherboards are easier to find and cheaper?.

If you are buying a locked Intel CPU you can get away with using the stock cooler.

 

At the moment a 5600X makes more sense cost wise for a server. This may change quickly as motherboard availability improves.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Unlike motheboard prices, there's no reason for the 5600X to reduce that AUD 110 price gap from the 12400 (AUD 140 to the 12400F) in the foreseeable future which is also the difference between boards of the same level for these CPUs. 5600G costs a little bit more than the 12400 so it's about AUD 100 cheaper in total, but also noticeably slower.

 

So it's a problem of how much patience you have.

You did not say what you want from a motherboard so it depends. Rear I/O USB, SATA, M.2 etc. Power draw is low so that's not a concern.

I'd probably want atleast 2 m.2 slots, atleast 2 front usb 2.0 and a usb 3.0, I'm not too fussed about the rear I/O and I'm not too fussed about much else.

B450M Mortar max if you dont mind a slow second M.2 slot, or B550-A Pro if you do.

 

Also for what GPU? Some GPUs care about PCIe 4 while most don't

Pc Part Picker says that the B450m mortar max is not compatible with the cpu, and the B550a pro is incompatible with my case (which is the fara h1m).

You just have to flash the BIOS first, it can do so without a CPU
