Two 3080 can run on B550M?

Onesomelowkite

Hi:

I am first time building a PC. I uses it for gaming and 3D rendering.

CPU AMD 5950X, I have two 3080 GPUs and a Gen4 M.2. 1TB SSD.

I know It will be better to run them on X570 MBO.

But I just got a B550M Steel legend MBO on hand.

On Steel Legend spec it said: AMD Ryzen series CPUs (Vermeer and Matisse)
- 2 x PCI Express x16 Slots (PCIE1: Gen4x16 mode; PCIE3: Gen3 x4 mode)*

Which means My first 3080 card will run on Gen4x16 mode on PCIE1;

My second 3080 will run on Gen x4 mode on PCIE3?
I am confused here, am I Right?(What
abt the Genx4 M.2 SSD?)

How much performance will I be lost on this setup? Is that noticeable?

Can I run my 3080 GPUs on 8X/8X equally on this B550M MBO?

Thanks you.

Since that 3080 is only going to be used for rendering and not gaming 3.0 x4 is fine for that. Nvme x4 will work fine too.

The b550m steel legend is barely able to handle a 5950x I don't fully recommend it for that.

I would just get a b550 tomahawk as that is basically just as good as mid range x570's but cheaper. You don't need a x570 board.

To add to this b550 and x570 are the chipsets. So only one chip on the board really. It all depends on the manufacturers how good they then make the board. Plenty of terrible b550 and x570 boards with power delivery that is inadequate, poor vrm cooling,... all that stuff.

My friend just gave me a Strix B550-E.

He said it is not bad for Dual GPUs.

My setup should be ok with that board I think.....

Thanks for your help again.
