Please Critique my planned build (driven by components I already own)

SVThuh

Please critique my "budget" build.  I already have the MoBo, GPU, and power supply.  I'm just torn on the processor really, given the parts that I already have.

Budget (including currency): Unk (USD)

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General productivity, some games (Cyberpunk, CS:GO, Skyrim, ARK, Etc)

Other details: This list includes the GPU, Power supply and MoBo that I already have.

Looks fine. About what I'd do for that build, though why are you going with Windows Pro?

I'd also maybe consider a smaller boot drive, but you'd know the size requirements of that more than anyone else.

Also, the 3600 can overclock. So. I'd probably just do that.

Don't get that CPU. Please. For $289 you can get a 5600X instead, a CPU that's way faster. Plus, that board has BIOS Flashback, so you can update it easily without needing a loaner CPU.

You don't need an AIO for the 3600X or 5600X. Just get a good tower cooler like the Scythe Fuma 2 and call it a day.

Don't pay full price for a Windows license, just go on eBay/some other key reseller and get one for like $10-20.

Only other thing I would change is the RAM to the black version and save $20.

A parts list with all my suggestions. As for the CPU, it is compatible if you check MSI's website, PCPartPicker is sometimes just wrong with their compatibility stuff.

What CPU do you have now?  What was on that B450 board?  Or did you buy the B450 for some reason and not a CPU?

I'd scrap that AIO and deploy that money into actual performance.  You go AIO either for aesthetics (when you've satisfied the performance parameters) or to push an already smokin' chip faster than it usually goes.  That is NOT a 3600x though.

The memory was already ordered.. Crucial only had the white in stock, so thats what I got (Micron employee, so Crucial employee store, so I saved a bit more than the $20 price difference)

Only real performance computer I have right now is my R9 G14 laptop.. The Mobo was a gift from a friend, as was the PSU.

I was thinking AIO so I have overhead in the future for a CPU upgrade.  Bad idea?

Welcome to the forum.

I use W. Pro at home on the daily so I would likely just stick with it for this one.

Overpriced uneccesary aio, arcooler like se 224 xt will suffice here assuming you dont overclock

Cpu is trash, get a 5600x instead

Rams are good but they are really pricy and 9$ more you get 32gb 3200 cl16 ram, best off buying some cheaper ballistix 3200 cl16 or if you dont do heavy ocing (4000mhz+ oc) get some cheap silicon power 3200 cl16

Ssd is overpriced, near the price of a gen4 ssd like the z440, get a z330 instead at ~80$

I wouldnt bother with a sata ssd, 2tb variant of the z330 is only 20$ more, heck might aswell just ditch 2 ssds and have one 2tb z330

Dont pay full price for windows, just buy it off sites like scdkey for 20$
