Having to enable Serial I/O in bios to install a driver?..

nelska

Im not even sure what a serial I/O driver is but to install it I had to enable it from the bios? Ive owned this pc for like 7 years and have never done this.. I reinstalled windows and am going through the driver installations on the manufacturer's website and came across it and I guess last time I just thought my pc was incompatible but this time googled it and its literally a toggle in the bios. but, I honestly do not know for what. Can someone explain this and is it a big deal for me? Am i looking at better performance or something thats unncessary like a laptop touchpad communications driver.. or something. thanks.
