Have a Ryzen 7 5800x or a Ryzen 9 3900x help

So I had a question and wanted to know what others thought was better. This is for a second PC that I will be building for myself. Want to know people's opinions about which is better to keep a Ryzen 7 5800x or a Ryzen 9 3900x, would staying on the ryzen 9 be better since it has more cores and threads or would going with the ryzen 7 be better since it's newer and even though it has less cores it runs games better? Any help is appreciated!! 

 

The PC will mainly be used for my plex server and for downloading stuff, but since it will have a 2070 super whenever family or friends come over they can use it to game.

Unless you're application uses something that will leverage all 12 cores fully, and you use this application all the time, the 5800x will be faster in absolutely everything else.

 

Its a question of use case and you didn't tell us yours.
