what midrange GPU should I buy?

swiftuu
Go to solution Solved by Tech87,

Everyone is in the same boat, and nobody truly knows when the shortage will end.

I would personally continue using the 5600g and just run lower graphics and settings, then get a new card when available.

I have considered buying a 2nd hand 1660ti for £400 ($530) off of ebay but these prices are terrible considered that the msrp is £210 ($279)

I have enough money for the msrp of a 3060 ti so should I wait until there is stock or should I buy something at a marked up price?

BTW my pc has a Ryzen 5 5600g at the moment and the performance is ok but I definitely need a gpu in the next year or so.

Any help will be appreciated, Thanks!

I cant see stock or prices improving much in the next year so now is as good a time as any to buy a gpu in theory.

The only thing about right now is there's a bit of Xmas hype so prices are a little higher than they were a month ago.

Honestly 400 is a bit more than I would pay for a 1660 ti but I don't think it's a bad price relative to the rest of the grey market.

The strategy I would go for is sign up to stock alerts with all the major retailers and also with telegram in case you can get something at retail. That's probably unlikely before Xmas but if you're happy to wait you might get something first few months of next year.

In the mean time you could keep an eye on the used market for something worth buying.

Someone on another thread had a 2080 they were going to sell for not much more than that 1660ti for example so that could have been a decent option

would have to disagree, in my area i can commonly find gpus for half decent prices, gtx 1060 6gbs for 160$ used and 6600xts for around 650$ new, prices arent amazing but its not too hard to find decent deals around here

currently with xmas and other holidays prices on tech in general are pretty meh, and youre better off waiting for prices to back down, while sure its gonna take a while you if youre willing enough you can find half decent deals here and there just buy looking at local markets on the daily, good place to look is old used pcs, ive recently found on my local market multiple pcs with 1060s in them for under 500$, you can buy the pc, take out the gpu and then sell it as a office pc (usually they had i7 4th gens i5 8th gens from what ive seen)
