RX 6600XT poor FPS on certain games

Guest
Go to solution Solved by Guest,

Thanks for the help @SlashedM and @GamerDude!

I am using the graphics card's output, and no I didn't uninstall the AMD onboard drivers when I went to install the drivers from the AMD Radeon utility upon inserting my graphics card (didn't assume I needed to).

However, after a bit more Googling, I fixed the issue. Some random person on Tom's Hardware said that Citrix Workplace was causing the issue for them. Funnily enough, I too had Citrix installed for working from home, and upon uninstalling it, BOOM problem solved, perfect performance.

I have no idea why Citrix was causing this issue, and not sure if it only affects the 6600XT or not. Upon further investigation, it seems Citrix installs its own graphics driver that might be confusing some games (trying to pass through maybe?). It also explains why Forza was confused about my graphics driver version, an error that is fixed now as well. Because I had Citrix installed before I got my graphics card, it didn't trigger me as the cause. But hey, thanks all!

Yo. A few days ago I picked up a PowerColor RX 6600XT Fighter for a somewhat unreasonable price.

For the most part it’s been performing great! However, some games experience really poor FPS to the extent they are unplayable. I’m assuming this is some sort of software issue, but I’ve updated drivers, toggled various settings in the AMD panel, and changed game settings. Nothing has fixed it yet.

for example, GTA V is getting around 5-10 fps. Halo Reach is around 25-30. MS FS 2020 seems to experience this issue too. In all these games it’s noticeable in gameplay and in the interfaces. Forza 5 plays perfectly, but does warns me that I need to upgrade my drivers because it “expected 20.X.X” but saw “-1.”

appreciate any next troubleshooting tips I can try! Thanks!

CPU is an AMD 5600G. 16GB ram. NVME SSD.

Where did you get the drivers? Sounds like there is driver issues here, try to DDU your drivers and clean install it from AMD's site. Also make sure that your HDMI/DP is connected to the graphics card, and not through the motherboard

Usual questions:

1. What GPU were you using before the RX 6600 XT?

2. Didcha simply uninstall previous driver and install the new card with new driver?

3. Didcha run DDU first?

4. What PSU are you using?

Glad you've resolved the issue, my question is, what the heck is Citrix?! Nvm, it's a rhetorical question (Googling will get me the answer). Only goes to show that some software problems can come from waaay left field, happy that nobody here had resorted to blaming 'crap' AMD driver for the issue (as is usually the case). AMD drivers have come a long way, speaking as one who'd started out with the ATi 9700 Pro back when...

I’m personally on team Blame Windows for everything, so my next step would have probably been a clean install rather than messing with drivers. AMD has been rocking it software wise imo. Thanks for the help @GamerDude!
