Incorrect low space warning (red usage bar) on Computer

Jimkirk363

I'm using windows 11 Pro and its showing one of my drives with 100GB of free space as having low space and the percentage bar is red.

Is there a way i can change\modify or turn off the low space warnings?

Thanks.

It's based on percentage rather than total space remaining. I believe the threshold is below around 10%. There's no way to change the threshold for low space.

You can disable the warnings via the registry. This is for Windows 10 but should carry over to Windows 11.

  1. Start > Run > Regedit > OK
  2. Now navigate to the following location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
  3. Right Click on the blank area of the right pane of the registry editor and create a new DWORD Value by selecting New > DWORD Value.
  4. Name this newly created DWORD Value -"NoLowDiskSpaceChecks"
  5. Now double-click on the new DWORD and assign it the value 1.
  6. Close the registry editor and restart the system.

EDIT: If you're looking to get rid of the red bar, I don't believe there's any way to revert it to blue, but you can disable the percentage bars entirely if it bothers you that much. https://spoonconcept.com/how-to-remove-the-hard-drives-red-bar-alert-in-windows-10/
