PC not starting with CPU-PWR

Hello,

I had a problem the last days and I cant solve it.

My PC broke and I thought it was the Mainboard, but now with the new one It don't start either, only if I unplug the CPU_PWR1 cables.

I have a 4+4 Power supply cable what I can attach to my CPU_PWR1 entrance.

Unplugged/with no Power supply cable= it starts

Plugged with Power supply cable= it don't starts.

My PC parts that are relevant for this post are:

Mainboard: MSI Z390 Gaming Plus

CPU: Intel i7 7700k

Cooling: Corsair H80i v2 water pump

If anyone can help me to fix my PC it would help a lot.

You CAN'T use a 7th Gen Intel CPU on the 300-series motherboard.

300-series only supports 8th and 9th Gen CPUs!!!

100-series and 200-series (i.e. Z270) supports 7th Gen.

It is LGA 1155 but the pins on the socket are not the same on 6th/7th Gen vs 8th/9th Gen.

You are not going to make that Z390 motherboard work with your i7-7700K.

Quote

Second revision of the LGA 1151 socket for Coffee Lake CPUs

The LGA 1151 socket was revised for the Coffee Lake generation CPUs and comes along with the Intel 300-series chipsets. While physical dimensions remain unchanged, the updated socket reassigns some reserved pins, adding power and ground lines to support the requirements of 6-core and 8-core CPUs. The new socket also relocates the processor detection pin, breaking compatibility with earlier processors and motherboards. As a result, desktop Coffee Lake CPUs are officially not compatible with the 100 (original Skylake) and 200 (Kaby Lake) series chipsets. Similarly, 300 series chipsets officially only support Coffee Lake and are not compatible with Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs.

Socket 1151 rev 2 is sometimes also referred to as "1151-2".

For all we know....just an example...

Pin #600 on Z270 is CPU power from the 4+4 pin, but Pin #600 on Z390 is DRAM slot #2 power signal.

Ouh okay... I thought because the Mainboard had a LGA-1151 socket and the Intel I7 7700k also had a LGA-1151 it could work.

How can I see the difference then? When there is no "1"or "2" at the back

There is LGA 1151 "Rev 1" which was for 6th and 7th Gen Intel CPUs.

And then LGA 1151 "Rev 2" for 8th and 9th Gen Intel CPUs.

And...Intel being...Intel.... 🙄

You would need to search through OFFICIAL Intel datasheet and documents, about their socket design, pin layout, etc.

But that doesn't fix YOUR issue.

You can't just re-wire the socket / motherboard.

If you want to have your computer up and running, you either need to look for a replacement (probably used now) 100-series or 200-series motherboard.

OR, get a compatible CPU, like a i5-8600(K), i7-8700(K), i5-9600(K), i7-9700(K), etc, etc.

Ouh okay...and thanks alot for the help 🙂

I am not the Biggesee expert...more like a beginner haha.

I first thought the Gen 8 means =i8 and not the 8 thousand at the end but thanks again 🙂
