Is it my Vega 56?... Extend desktop and it reboots almost every single day.

jmc111

It did it with my W10 x370 3950x setup and now it will reboot my x570, 5950x setup.

The Vega 56 got moved over to the x570.

EDIT...(Oh, this is a "dummy" monitor plug for second monitor)

Since I figured out when it was happening, I only extend the desktop when I need it for recording on the other monitor.

Once I've finished recording I turn the "Extended" back off and no daily reboots!

You might want to DDU the driver and install the newest one as I've had this issue on my vega 64 before where it would just start hiding windows somewhere and then crashing ended up being a bad driver due to a driver upgrade to the 2021 march ones which had an issue.. I also know that with those dummy displays it doesn't always play nice.

OK, that made me think back to when I was using my old real monitor (16/10) as a second.

There were no reboot problems. (but then that might have been W7?)

I switched to the dummy plug because I could configure it as a 16/9 720p monitor.

The "real" 16/10 monitor always recorded at 16/10 (16/9 with black bars) so went to the dummy plug.

I'll plug the real 16/10 monitor back in for a test run. If no reboots then it is the dummy plug.

Thanks a lot!

  • 2 weeks later...

OK, with a REAL monitor plugged in vs a Dummy...NO reboots!

But then with a REAL monitor plugged in I now get a little flashing on the main screen.

My "flash" is...what I am looking at moved over to the left 25% with the colors changed.

So I'm going back to the Dummy monitor and only "extend" to it for recording.

thanks,
