Installed RTX 3060ti now drive issues?

jrod4pats

Am coming with some issues after installing an RTX 3060ti into my build. Tried running some games and noticed it was performing about as good as my old 1060 so tried troubleshooting and I didn't see any issues with the gpu. My current setup is an RTX 3060ti paired with an AMD Ryzen 3600 with G.Skill TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 of ram running in XMP with a Gigabyte B550 AORUS Elite. After trying some various things I tried to run UserBenchMark.

I found this interesting and the next time I turned my PC on it didn't. Whenever I have to I now have to turn it off and on a few times in order for it to boot. I don't understand as to why as I have a 750W PSU that I had more recently just bought. I am also running two case fans and some LEDs if this helps at all with getting this problem sorted. I appreciate any and all help/advice!

Yes the WD Blue SN550 is an SSD that's in the PCIE slot on my mobo. It also the drive that contains my OS.

Well, now it would be interesting to see what happens if you put your old gpu back...? i can't think of a scenario where a new gpu can make all hard-drives slowing down/ starting to fail.

Did you do anything else besides installing the new gpu, like new drivers,  bios... anything?

Only the GPU swap nothing else. I did update my drivers on NVIDIA but that's about it. I tried using DDU in order to uninstall and reinstall the drivers as I thought they were drivers.

Hmm, I see,  try updating the bios.

Updated the bios and am still having the same issues. Have also been using Unigen as a benchmark and keep getting the same low score and am receiving almost 50% lower scores compared to those with similar specs it seems.

I'm a bit at loss here, obviously something strange going on...

I had something similar once, turned out to actually be the hard-drives seemingly... i could fix the Kingston (at least so much it wouldn't slow down the system anymore) the Seagate "barracuda" was a hopeless case however... i use it as backup drive now, but as soon i put it into my pc it slows everything down lol...

So. I would suggest you try removing every drive except OS drive and see if anything changes...

It could also be a memory leak, try ISLC for that, but see if removing the drives does anything first .

Shots in the dark, but yeah, basic troubleshooting is like that sometimes.

Just tried that and it didn't seem to fix anything. Could it potentially just be a gpu issue and I may have just gotten a defective gpu?

It could be, but no way to say that definitely for me.

You can also try to put the gpu in the lower (ie slower) pcie slot... it could be a pci3/pci4 issue,  pretty common with Ampere gpus and putting it in the lower slot should fix that afaik.

I had tried that already where I moved it from PCI1 due to some clearance issues to PCI2 (couldnt fit into 3). I am currently trying out my 1060 in order to see whats going on.

other thing to try turn off xmp.

If that also does nothing,  try each ram stick separately,  in each slot (yeah i know, but ram issues are also pretty common, and it's another 'basic' troubleshooting step)

I mean it might just be a defective gpu, i find that just pretty unlikely however.

So I tried the 1060 and it actually seemed to be underperforming as well. So my next step was to try and take out the MOBO and the ram and see if that fixed it. Just tested and it performed slightly better on some benchmarks and some games but at most a 10% difference. This is both using different RAM and MOBO. This is genuinely confusing me now.
