Best Display Port Cable for a Multiple monitor setup

club3d usually makes solid displayport cables

So i've been having some issues and I'm now suspecting it might be the 20th pin on the Display Port cables (It's literally the only thing I can come to but regardless I'm just replacing basically every major component in 3 days). But what brand do you use for your Display Port Cables? Particularly if you're going to be using a 3070ti.

Thanks.

They would avoid the 20th pin issue for sure?

I Describe the issues I have had in a separate thread, but I only tonight thought about trying the existing ones I had (manufacture, and some random brand on Amazon called Ivanky) on my brother's rig and 2 of the cables produced the same issue I'm having on my rig on his rig. So i'm assuming there is at least a degree of the 20th pin issue at play or some aspect of the cables is otherwise defunct (for reference right now I have a 3060ti but a local PC store is holding a 3070ti for me since i have their replacement plan and thought it might be a GPU fault).

I'm just like so exasperated and honestly kinda afraid to buy cables now. My difficulties in troubleshooting and diagnosing this have literally shaken my faith in the hobby at this point.

there is nothing for sure about making these cables work. displayport is unfortunately a bit picky

I've heard now twice tonight Ivanky having issues

Well if I might ask another question would this short cause damage to the GPU or Motherboard? That's my real concern honestly. I don't mind the weird boot issues (whcih I've largely been able to circumvent) but I don't want to damage my system 😕

if your having issues I'd just spend the money on some cables and see if that fixes it. easy enough to return if they don't

Fair enough at this point I don't think there's any stopping me replacing my mobo (which I've been a bit worried about to be honest) and the GPU is a snag but I'm definitely just going to order a bunch of cables at this point.

my first though is not a motherboard issue. you have DDU and clean installed drivers? this could also be a messed up windows install

I did have a corrupted windows install but that resulted in a complete reformat of my drives (spare an inactive storage one that is simply for emergency backups of cames to cut down on downloading) and a fresh resintall of the drivers for the GPU as well.  (I have not used DDU specifically though, and the windows corruption I think i pinpointed to a failing HDD that's well over 7 years old and for some reason had what I believe was my boot files on it but i'm not wholy sure of the cause.)

The issue in particular that I have is tha tthe computer won't post while monitors are in standby (easier enough to get around just turn them off or start them up after the pc has posted but i like to leave them in standby) But this happens only with Display Port to Display Port cables one 2 seperate GPUs across both PCIE 3.0 lanes (one x8 and one x16) for both of my two monitors.

I'm honestly fresh out of ideas. I find it far fetched that it's the mobo, and since the GPU was working totally fine before the switch I find it hard to belive its a defect with the GPU so far evidence points to the cables but the 2 cables that do work on a different rig don't work consistently across all ports on my GPU So i'm at a total loss at this poinst.

(Additionally I have had weird issues with peripherals failing from the mobo in the past though following a rather bad power outage while connected to a bad surge protector. And recently replaced a PSU that exhibited symptoms of failure. so I'm not completely beyond there being some peripheral damage to the Motherboard that might be causing the issue, I just... personally am very skeptical it is but I don't really trust it anymore.)

cables because they aren't fiber can have have random issues with PSUs+board+GPU combos

ah okay, thats a case where it maybe time for a new board if a PSU dies and it isn't acting right after

Can you expand on this? I'm not super techie. But normally I just kind accept cables as cables and roll with it. I've never distrusted one before (so this is a very weird kinda violating thought I'm having at this point because they were always the unsung hero I thought i could rely on for consistency until I started trying to troubleshoot this.)

Yeah I mean i came down to the board by process of elimination and because I have a Microcenter near me and I alway get the replacement plan on the GPU and it's easier than an RMA and there's an opportunity to get a 3070ti(which is what I was really hoping to get in the first place) with it at this point I figure i'm just going tostick with that, but the Mobo is the last hardware component that wasn't a post surge acquisition. I feel like its a safer bet to replace it given I have had some strange restarts and peripheral mishaps (mainly USBs on the back panel seem to lose the device. Generally just 1 or 2 of them but I'd rather ensure all the USBs are fine.) Unfortunately I hear Gigabyte has pretty bad customer service right now and no replacement plan on that since it was an amazon acquisition so I had to get a new one but I luckily found the same board so it's not a total total overhaul.

But yeah rambling aside I think it would be a safe, though not necessarily necessary, step to replace it. Interestingly I only found out about the PSU failure when replacing my old GTX 1070 with the 3060ti a few months ago when the system began randomly powering off competely (tbf it was about 5 years old or so.)

That makes sense.

But this to you doesn't sound like a typical motherboard problem? then in general just typical Display port issues? Cause if so i might return the motherboard there's no sense in replacing it if there's no major issue with its function.

And going back to the Ivanky cable issue: Turns out despite being advertised as VESA compliant/Certified they are not actually listed by Displayport as a certified or compliant manufacturer. Club3D is though.

The Club 3D cables do successfully resolve the issue. No issues out of the box. System is 100% functional now :p
