Updating Windows 10 to 11?

Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

Yup you can do a inplace upgrade.

Id have a backup first, but you should probably have that anyways.

Ive done the upgrade on a few systems with no issues.

When Windows 11 becomes available, will we be able to update our current Windows 10 through a simple Windows Update?

Or will we have to do a clean install of Windows 11?

@Electronics Wizardy Do you know when Windows 11 will be available through Windows Update?

Another question, will there be versions like Windows 11 Home / Pro / etc?

Depends on your system, probably up to a few more months at max. depending on the system. You can force it now if you want.

Yea there is 7 editions of windows 11 now(pro, home, enterprise and others), and the limits between editions are about the same as windows 10(home doesn't have things like domain join, group policy, azure ad, hyper-v, pro doens't have things like bitlocker, quad socket support, more group policy features)

I'm a Windows Insider and saw the option to upgrade to Windows 11 in the regular update page of the settings.

After having tried it for 2 frustrating and disorienting days I can happily say that the rollback process is at least as easy as the update process.

You can go to the System > Recovery page in settings and select "Go Back" under "Previous version of Windows", this initiates a restart and when the system boots up again it's back to Windows 10. It even remembered my start menu settings and pinned programs etc, which was a relief after being forced to try and rebuild a workable start menu in Win 11.
