Crucial Ballistics vs Corsair Vengeance

Ok, so I am building a PC with a Ryzen 5 5600g as the CPU that can use up to ~3,200 speed according to AMD's website. (Yes, I know that there is a thread on this ready but it is older now and doesn't quite fit...

image.png.541655cea0710bdd444c206ee9297e47.png

These are the two options, what would you guys suggest?
also, does the 2 channel part listed on AMD's website mean that 2 sticks is the max that it can handle or can it handle more with a daisy chain?
Thank you in advance!

Take my observation with a grain of salt but every day I see people on this forum having issues with XMP on their Ryzen system and in 90% of the cases I've seen they have Corsair Vengeance.

And I don't think I've seen anybody to complain about Crucial yet. I run it myself as well.

Ryzen only supports Dual Channel but that does not mean you can only have two sticks. For RAM there are channels and ranks, by adding more sticks you're also increasing the number of ranks which also adds a tiny bit extra performance but with more ranks it is significantly more difficult to OC and run high speed memory.

You're looking at single rank sticks, you would get more performance with 4 sticks but there are also dual rank sticks in which case two would be enough... obviously, it gets more expensive.

It's also rare to find 8GB sticks for DDR4 that are dual rank.

The Crucial Ballistics uses Micron (E die prob) chips and I would not be surprised if you can get it to run at 3600 at the same latency.

The Corsair Vengeance probably uses SK Hynix (M die prob, or sometimes Samsung) chips and I am not even sure you could get it to run at 3200 properly. 3600 will likely take some fiddling.

I guess I am the only lucky one with Corsair Vengeance sticks playing very nicely with my 5950X (*as I proceed to knock on wood*).

Damn it, no 😞

You could mount a sweet scope or laser sight on them pretty easily!

The issue with "Corsair Vengeance" is that it's just a name.

Each kit can be vastly different from another based on which version you get and Corsair is also changing the entire memory IC's faster than socks so you may buy 3 kits with the same spec and get 3 kits with every component different except it's called the same.

Yeah, that's part of the problem with RAM sticks when manufacturers might have different components across batches produced.

I had purchased two same SKU 16GB kits of Corsair Vengeance 3200/CL16 from Amazon a month apart. One was SK Hynix the other was Samsung. The SK Hynix kit barely managed 3200; the Samsung kit managed 3600.

The SK Hynix kit didn't work in my Ryzen 5 1600 system at 3200; maxed out at 2666. The Samsung kit worked at 3200 with XMP only.

With Crucial, you're always getting Micron chips, since Crucial is a Micron brand.

Viper Steel from Patriot is all Hynix CJR.

I have ran over the reviews on amazon for the 3733mhz kit and it's 95% positive with some outliers not hitting rated speeds.

I have 4000mhz kit but run it at 3733 CL15 because this is a 1:1 ratio with infinity fabric. Samsung B-Die on their faster stuff.

I mean for example a dude over on TPU hit over rated on theirs...

It's also rare to find 8GB sticks for DDR4 that are dual rank.

Ty sir, I was leaning towards Crucial until I saw the sale on Corsair's where it was cheaper to get 3600 rather than the 3200 from the Crucial.  I don't think that it would even make a difference considering the 5600g can only get up to 3200 so yeh.  Ty again ❤️
