new monitor not working 144hz

i bought a samsung odyssey G5 32" its a 144 hz 1440p monitor. i went from a 1080p 60hz monitor. but it is running at 1440p but at 60hz. ive changed it in the menu on the monitor but doesnt let me change it in the display setting on the computer. im using hdmi does that matter does it need display port?

HDMI can be finnicky and if whatever you're plugging it into doesn't have an HDMI 2.0 port, it won't do 144Hz @ 1440p. What I suggest always doing when working with PC's and PC monitors is use DisplayPort. It's much less problematic.
