dp to dvi-d adaptor not working

I bought a dp to dvi-d adaptor to use with my 1660, and it doesn't do anything, windows doesn't even recognize the monitor, but the adaptor works fine with an old optiplex machine I have here. is it because the port in the gpu is newer? they are backwards compatible right? I have no idea on how dp works, I just need some help rn

Yes, it should work. Are you using it from DP on the graphics card to DVI on the monitor? These adapters only work in one direction.
