i7-11800h only has 4 cores even though i7 are considered higher end cpus, why?

dragalt

Is the i7-11800h a good laptop processor?
Its speed is good but it only has 4 cores? Is that a good deal?
I'm a little confused since even i with my little knowledge of computers know that 4 cores in on the lower side of core count.
I thought the i7 was one of the more higher end cpus then why does it only have 4 cores?

nvm realized i searched up the wrong model number.

It's an 8 core, 16 thread CPU.

Well Intel is now the one trying to keep up with AMD.
So yeah, they might bring out weird stuff.

I would NOT go for a 4core for a new computer, most likely for the same price you can double that.

Aside from it being an 8 core processor, i7 processors have more cache built into them which also help with processing.

As others have mentioned, it's 8 cores.

HOWEVER, there are 4 core i7 models, like the i7-1165G7. Sure it's current gen, but it's only got 4 cores. Why? Because it's a low power mobile CPU.

So you can never assume core count just by the name.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Pretty sure i7 with 4 cores (apart from NUC applications) hasn't been a thing since 8th gen?

I have done research and 11800H is much better than ryzen laptop cpus for gaming

Both 10th gen intel ryzen 5900H series compares poorly on intel on gaming performance

about 11800H

+8 core 16 threads more realistic boost clocks (10875H is rated at 5.1Ghz but rarely reaches that 11800h has lower clocks but utilizes better)

+More cache than ryzen and older intels

+10nm new arcitecture that is more efficient than old intels

on multicore performance ryzen is still great for gaming intel is better

+PCI 4.0 lanes x16 dedicated to gpu and 4x dedicated to nvme (ryzen does not have this!)

+resizeable bar support

+it is much more available than ryzen laptops which is sad but true

+improved single coreand also multicore performance compared to old intels
