Best Buy puts "Hot Items" Behind $200 Membership Fee

That made me laugh out loud. To suggest that you are being abused by having to pay more for a gaming console is ridiculous.

And, more importantly, how is it "customer abuse", considering that if you never buy anything from them you are not a customer?

Best Buy will be just fine. They have enough PS5s and graphics cards that the demand from people who will join the membership will meet supply - they aren't losing out on anything!

It becomes abuse when the only way to buy a product that is in short supply is by paying an unrelated membership fee.

At the moment products like the PS5 are rare, just like GPU's,  it is quite common for only a handful of retailers to have any stock, if those that do put up artificial barriers that cost the consumer more then that is by it's very existence customer abuse.

As someone who is holding an extra PS5 as an investment-to-cash-in come Thanksgiving....I approve of this.  The higher the 'street price' retailers create the better it is on the grey market for sellers.
