It depends on your needs and programs that you use (and ofc your budget) but I think 4x8 GB will be always better. I recommend G.Skill Ripjaws V @ 3600 16-16-16-36 or if you've bigger budget, you can buy G.Skill Trident Z @ 3600 15-15-15-35 as I use. They're really good for some OC and overall use.

If you are not overclocking then any generic 3200mhz cl16 kit will do, just make sure to tune it a lil but you arent losing much performance anyways compared to 3600, 3% at most

If you are overclocking get some b die rams like ripjaws 3600 cl16 or viper steel 4400mhz cl19, pref go for a 2x16 here cause 4 sticks will stress out the imc aka less ocing capability

I can recommend most of them in this list. Crucial, G.Skill and Corsair make all good Ram and you can also try Team Group. So basically, with no cap on budget, get a 3600MHz CL 15 or CL 14 kit. 2x16GB is what I would recommend, since you can then upgrade to 64GB in the future. With 4x8GB you don't have room for upgrades.

I never recommend picking up 4 channels of ram out of the gate.  Very, very few users will ever be able to capitalize on the minimal performance gains of that configuration.  I always recommend going with 2, and leaving 2 for potential expansion in the future.  Laptops, OFC, are a different matter.

The platform is dual channel, regardless of the number of modules involved.

In general, I agree with the sentiment of getting a two module kit leaving two slots open for future upgrades.

You should be able to get a second 2x8GB kit to bring you to 32GB total. Ideally an identical kit to what you have. But as long as speed and timings are the same, you should have no trouble getting the new kit working.
