What are the pros of 5600x over 11600k?

Filingo

I saw in Tom's Hardware that the 11600k is actually better. And since for PBO with the 5600x you need a decent cooler anyway, the TDP doesn't really matter.

I don't know why I just rushed and bought the 5600x.

So now that the 11600k is cheaper and more powerful, is there any reason to stay with the 5600x? Might as well wait for Alder Lake at this point after all the benchmarks that are surfacing

Is it though? They seem to go back and forth.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

If you already bought the 5600X, don't bother switching to the 11600k. The only real benefit you'd get is a performance uplift in Intel-optimized workloads (hint: not many exist) and an extra iGPU. Plus, motherboards are a decent amount more expensive on Intel anyway, so you still might end up spending more going Intel than AMD, even though the CPU itself is cheaper.

If you're going to switch CPUs, either wait for Alder lake or go to one of the higher end AM4 CPUs (5900X for example), anything else is just a side grade

If I can hold a little bit more with my old PC and return the 5600x - you think it will be worth waiting for something like 12600k. Right now some  benchmarks show 12900k is like 30% better than its AMD equivalent so I can only hope that the 12600k will also be at least 20% better than 5600x?

The 11600k needs a way better cooler than the 5600X does. It draws twice the power when not even boosting and more than triple at max boost speeds. It also doesn't even come with a cooler, so you have to shell out for that no matter what.

Why not just get a better cooler if you want to overclock with PBO?

they're all rumors at this point though. We're far enough away that I wouldn't consider it worth waiting. The 5600X is a great CPU, and should be plenty for the next while.

I just ordered the PA120 which is rated for 245w!!(🤯) I think it can handle 11600k well, wish I could try it on an actual 11600k.

Ok now I'm leaning towards leaving my 5600x as is. It just started with the USB issues if you saw my other post which is why I even started thinking about replacing everything. Hopefully the latest bios update actually fixed it. But i still think about returning it just because AMD's disgusting behavior of hiding the cause for it. As they call it "root cause". So lame. At least let us know what is the reason for the 500 chipset issue instead of being shady like I don't know what. Has anyone actually come up with a speculation regarding what they refer to as "root cause"?

to be fair, rumors for 12th gen doesnt look good, because no leaks excist that would show gaming performance, there is an old ass leak of Dota, but nobody knows whats up with win11 and gaming performance in legacy games so far. AoTS looked promising but you cant really trust that.

From theory 30mb L3 on intel should kick in, its all a matter of the scheduler, if it works good we will see a new gaming king, if it doesnt, we gonna get dissapointed.

I am the only person on the planet who has not experienced any issues with the AM4 platform and Zen3. I jumped in fully expecting a shitload of hassles, the kind you get from building a frustration box. Instead I have had such a good experience. Its been just as, if not more reliable than some of my past Intel setups. The last time I was using AMD 939 was @ retail and I had all kinds of issues using Asus, Abit, and OCZ. Most of the time it was good, but when things got bad.. I just sold all of it and bought a Conroe. Eleven six is a great CPU. But so is the one you have. I know, I am running the piss out of mine and it loves it. I wish I could abuse my 5900X like this lol. She gets warm at the top..

I'll preface this. I haven't done hardly any research into this.

I wonder if it's motherboard side issues and not CPU side. I've got a MSI and haven't had any drop out issues. I built my AMD rig on Christmas last year and haven't had any issues with it that I didn't cause.

I had a few minor issues with Zen1, but Zen3 has been nothing but stable as well. All of the issues are overblown.

Look at that:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/antonyleather/2021/09/27/new-benchmark-leak-reveals-impressive-performance-of-intels-12900k-12700k-and-12600k-alder-lake-processors/?sh=2080fb9e2f74

really 20% increase from the 5600x to the 12600k

But again, the new Z690 chipset and DDR5/Pcie5 will probably be way more expensive for my budget. So I will just wait for Linus to build The Most Expensive Alder Lake PC of 2022. I think I enjoy watching others have the most expensive hardware and building ridiculous things rather than actually having it myself. It is oddly enjoyable

A leak is not a review, Alder Lake performance is not confirmed. Plus, it's a benchmark and benchmarks are not reflective of real world performance. Wait for LTT, GN, JTC, ... to make a full review when launched, then you will be able to decide.

But TBH, stick with the 5600X, it's an excellent CPU, the performance margin with Intel ones are not worth the spending. (At the end is you do you, spend on things you think is right even if it is not reasonable)

The biggest reasons to go with the 5600x to me are that you are going to be paying a whole lot of money on a Z590 motherboard, easily $50-100 more for the same level of performance as you'll get out of the 5600x. Most B550s are going to be able to power the 5600x with PBO on without much difficulty, even the $100 models, whereas the 11600k you're looking at $175-250 for a good experience.

Given the Wraith stealth sucks, you're going to have to pay for a decent cooler anyway, let's just say $60 for the Scythe Fuma 2 in either case.

$290 5600x

$120 B550

$60 Scythe Fuma 2

~$470

vs

$265 11600KF

$200 Z590

$60 Scythe Fuma 2

~$525

You'll be paying more money for slightly less performance in most cases. The 5600x also has more than double the L3 cache, which is helpful in games especially.

Things change when you shift down to the 11400 and a cheaper B560, though. You'll save a few dollars there and performance differences are going to be somewhat negligible most of the time when GPU limited.

While you could pair an 11600K with a B560, you're losing out on overclocking the core, at which point just getting the 11400 makes more sense.
