ASUS TUF Gaming Z590-Plus WiFi 6 and M.2?

According to the NewEgg page:

https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813119370

M.2_1 slot (Key M), type 2242/2260/2280/22110
- Only Intel 11th processors support PCIe 4.0 x4 mode, this slot will be disabled for other CPUs

I understand 4.0 is an 11th gen thing, but does that sound right? The slot will be disabled? I'd assume they just dial it down to 3.0 on a 10th gen, instead of making the slot non-functional.

Could be a deal-breaker, because I need a place to put my SK Hynix Gold P31 2TB

No. That slot is, as it states, completely disabled once a 10th Gen CPU is installed because that one is connected to the 4 PCIe lanes for NVMe storage that come right from the 11th Gen CPU, which the 10th Gen didn't have. It is wired that way so it goes to the CPU. When the CPU doesn't support it, the slot is obviously not enabled because it isn't wired in that case.

The M.2_1 socket is definitely disabled when running a 10th Gen CPU.

This board has 3 M.2 sockets so you still have two other M.2 sockets to install an SSD drive. I am using M.2_2 and SSD performance is great.
