Upgrading from 3080 to 3080 ti, do I need to reinstall drivers or anything?

I have an MSI RTX 3080 Ventus OC and I am going to be replacing with an MSI RTX 3080 Ti Ventus. 

Do I need to download DDU and reinstall graphics drivers or anything when I replace it?

its the same driver, it will be fine

Is that the general rule of thumb for GPUs and upgrading? Old gtx 1050 with the same drivers as a 3090 wouldn't a problem?

Same as what others have said. Go for it and uninstall if you have problems. I've recently swapped from 970 to 1070 to 970 to 3080 without reinstalling drivers for any of the swaps and had no problems.

 

I'd only recommend preemptively using DDU when switching manufacturers, and even then it doesn't often cause major problems in newer machines.

Very simple. Two schools of thought and its just personal preference. Try it and if you have a problem, DDU and re-install. 

 

Or, which I do because i'm just like that, always use DDU's "Wipe and shutdown" option whenever I swap a GPU. Just makes me feel better.
