History of wrist pain. And it's coming back. Probably from gaming, and ya know, covid. What do people recommend to help? Voice control? new mouse?

Gork

Or other?

Hi all new to the forums. Fuck me running having wrist pain problems. Reddit, being reddit, "helpfully" trolled . A few people suggested moving to roller ball mice, or even some exotic vertical mouse. I have a history of wrist pain. Probably from a mixture of being a gamer, and also back in the day I did a short stint in competive TaiChi. lol no I don't think I did all that well in it.  Before covid I was making great progress from hitting up planet fitness. Being as they're only half heartedly open, hoping to find some mousing and controll options.

I'm on windows 10, have a budget, but servicable microphone I've used before for voice attack with mixed luck even getting firefox to work.

What do people here suggest in addition to ice, chilling on the gaming some (pun intended) and doing some ghetto af improvised arm and wrist curls  to help heal and get some strength back?

Craft Gaming swears by a trackball. I haven't used one of those in decades. On the other extreme MrWhosTheBoss has made the ocasional mention of using some kind of verticle mousing setup.

What do you guys think?

Welcome to the forums!!!

Perhaps consult a doctor if you haven't already??? I'm not sure if you are able to see one but just a recommendation if it bothers you or impairs your daily tasks. I know for a family member, it does, and there is nothing you can do for it (arthritis).

A) get yourself some wrist/grip strengtheners to help strengthen the muscles in your hands/wrists/forearms.

B) Vertical mice are a great answer to it for productivity, not so much for gaming as it puts your wrist and bones in a natural orientation instead of pronation where they cross over each other and causes the strain you're feeling.

Thank you! FWIW last year with the problem my primary doctor coudn't do much. Though she did figure out it was probably carpal tunnel, and suggested lots of ice

Perhaps follow up with your primary doctor as you might have to see a hand specialist (doctor that specializes in treating conditions involving the hand). I'm no doctor but what you have said about resting and suggesting ice does appear to help treat carpal tunnel (according to the Mayo Clinic).

This includes voice control and using the mouse with a tobii eye tracker. Most of the users are programmers, so basic program controls and writing code work pretty well. In the Slack are also some people gaming with voice only, but i haven't tried that.
