White spots on new RTX3080

StormBreakes

I just got my new pc today, I observed some “white” spots in the cooling ribs on the Asus RTX3080 TUF. It’s look like some kind of corrosion on the ribs and screws. What do you think?

It’s a bit stuck in the metal, but the top layer comes off like “corn/dust”

That card looks used...

Are the specs accurate? Does it perform like it's supposed to?

Have used it just for 1 hr. Looks like it benchmarking right. The pc come like new with plastic protection etc. it’s a ASUS ROG Strix GA35. But something else is that the pre installed software don’t show cpu temperature but everything else shows right system status

How long is the warranty?

I'd send those pics back to them and put the ball in their court

I’m definitely not a expert but this looks like oxidation maybe ?? If they stored the card in dump conditions it may happen.

What I think as well or something dripped. Maybe when the installed water cooling for CPU. Can be a chemical reaction.

Does this system have an AIO, or is it using a metal air/tower cooler for the CPU?

If the AIO *IS* leaking, then that's a BIG problem...AIO's are supposed to be close-loop and SEALED.

Installing an AIO SHOULD NOT causing anything to drip.

The CPU is AIO water cooled, can’t see any leaks or the AIO is empty 😬 can’t see the cpu temperature in the asus software.

Even if its leaking, how come this is basically everywhere on the gpu cooler... seems odd, right?

Not saying that isnt it just saying it seems weird / unlikely - there should be stuff on the backplate etc also.

So the PC is working ok, otherwise?

I don't know if I would recommend anything other than taking pics of everything and returning the PC, but if you think its not in immediate danger you can download hwinfo64  to check temps - and don't do anything demanding like playing a game until you have confirmed temps are ok.

And there isn't anywhere else any residue/ white stuff in the pc? I mean like if the aio was leaking I'd expect some of the stuff being on the bottom as well...

Otherwise just return the thing, whatever happened to the GPU can't be good and will impact longetivity most likely.

PS: Just to be clear,  I would not ever turn this pc on, but seems you already did...

Edit: also a photo of the complete inside would help... i can't even tell which way the GPU is oriented... 🤷‍♀️

Had some computers true my life, never seen this before.

The computer seems to work normal.

I didn’t see the “white” stuff before I open the case. It was some “corns/dust” from the GPU in the bottom of the case. But no since to dripping.

Turned of the computer after the discovery.

One Theory can be moist shipping, was long delivery time. Almost all of shipment is delayed.

Are in dialog with the store.

I think most likely scenario is the gpu was stored in a damp place or something was spilled on it, otherwise there would be more of the stuff/ traces in the pc... seems its only affecting bare metal parts, but its unlikely the card will have a long life...

And the no cpu temps is also odd of course.

Probably best to return it, good luck in any case!

i would return it or else if they say is normal get an email with pics proofing that because probably if you  need RMA latter asus will turn it down. i had that exact card before i switch to my current 6800 xt and the metal was well polished.
