jakkuh_t

cables are not perfect. i am running a AMD FX8350, 16Gb ram, MSI 970a motherboard, GTX 1060 6Gb

it's not a rocket but for a little bit of gaming it's ok.

This is my current setup.  Not perfect, but I'm pretty proud of it.

Figured I would throw my hat into the ring.

Started watching you guys a few years ago, and really got into computers shortly afterwards.

I started with a pre-built from Best Buy, which was okay, but definitely not worth the 700 dollars that my mom spent on it now that I know more about the value of components.

It had:

AMD FX-6300

Nvidia GT730 2GB

8GB DDR3-2333MHz

1TB Western Digital Blue HDD

and of course it came with Windows 10 Home

Pretty good space heater, not great at much else.

It would be over the next couple of years, using my new experience in the field of IT, and from watching your videos as well as others, that I would build my own rig.

My first rig had:

AMD FX-9590

Nvidia GTX1060 6GB

8GB DDR3-2666MHz

2TB Western Digital Blue HDD

Still went with Windows, but this time Professional, because Virtual Machines.

Yes it was a pretty good space heater, as well.

The rig shown in these pictures however, took almost two years of saving money and waiting for a freakin GPU to be in stock that wasn't a 1060 for 700 dollars.

This latest rig has:

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

Nvidia RTX 2070 Super

128GB DDR4-2666MHz (Overclocked to 3200)

500GB Seagate FireCuda PCIe Gen4 NVMe

2x 4TB Western Digital Gold HDD

2x 2TB Western Digital Blue HDD

Runs Ubuntu Focal Fossa 20.04

It runs like a champ, and I am happy with every penny that I put into it.

For those wondering why I need such a ridiculous machine -

- Virtual Machine Testing

- Use as a media center if I so desire

- Literally whatever I want

- Why do you care how I spend my money?

Anyways, I think it will be a few years, maybe a decade before I upgrade again, with this chip shortage and all.

Just wanted to thank the team at Linus for helping to inspire me to start this journey into computer building and IT.

My life would be completely different if you guys weren't doing what you do now.

Respectfully,

Some Guy

Where can I post my current gaming setup ? It will more than likely get roasted but I only hid things that are illegal in my country and I left the lube in plain view and anyone who knows the brands and flavours will reckonise them, I think it should probably be checked before posting just in case lol, I've spent around $5000 NZD on this.

Need some motivation to sort it out tbh lol the Mrs isn't exactly happy with my half of our bedroom given she's OCD with putting stuff away and keeping the house tidy.

Can’t believe you roasted that perfect setup for having the one cable hahah. Not sure you’re aware but computers need them to run. Anyway looks like it’s a sit stand desk hence the cable will have slack in sit position. I have the same setup and couldn’t hide mine as there are audio connections to a sub below, also featuring a single grouped cable. This is my Mac design setup, minus the windows machine and extra 27” I will be bringing home from the office shortly. Those are for unreal/unity development and audio recording so cables will get interesting real soon. Base specs for geeks are Ryzen 3970x, Gigabyte RTX1080Ti Gaming OC, 128gb 3200mhz, 2x2tb gen 4 Samsung 980 pro

Long time (sporadic) viewer and forum lurker here.

Maybe you would be interested in a lab- / personal pc / EE workshop setup?

PC spects are rather unimpressive. Main workstation has:

Ryzen 3700X @ 4.2Ghz

B450-A Pro Max Motherboard

Corsair something something 32GB DDR4 RAM @3200Mhz (RGB, it was the cheapest option at that speed)

Random PC case, open on one side for cooling 😉

A be quiet Dark Rock Cooler bought second hand for a couple buck's. Plus a clamp to adapt it to the socket.

Some old, random GTX950Ti GPU (not much gaming going on anymore, but would kill for a quadro)

2x2TB NVMe SSD's (one on the Mainboard, one in an PCIe to M.2 adapter board).

The second machine visible in the pics is pretty impressive, but that has nothing to do with the 2600k running in it.

And before you ask, the top shelf is overloaded and bent 5mm over the 2m length. I will have to address that with some additional 4040 rails for reinforcement.

I got budget PC (I was gifted by and used PC without RAM and storage, I have changed the CPU from 6500 to 7500, cause the old one was working only with 1 core and bought new cooling to the case and for the new CPU and also new storage among with RAM) and this is how it looks after one month of usage. I got the thing under the desk for the keyboard, dunno who actually put his keyboard there so I hid there cables. I plan to do something with the side panel fan, it looks awful at this point but I wanted a better cooling in my case and believe it or not, it's working! (made 2 holes in the case, one at the bottom and one on the side). Temperatures are lower (max CPU 60, max GPU 70). Full HD 144Hz monitor (this is for a long time solution), generic old gaming keyboard and also generic logitech mouse (but it's good after 4 years of use).

Specs of the components in the PC are:

PSU Zalman 500W - already got

MBR: ASUS B250M-K - already got

CPU: Intel Core I5-7500 - 100 euros

GPU: Nvidia GTX 760 2GB - 100 euros

RAM: 16GB DDR4 2400MHz - 60 euros

also 256GB nvme storage (35 euros) and some old 500GB HDD (also got USB 3.0 2TB HDD)

It got optical drive too

2 used fans, 3 bought with new cooling for CPU (43 euros)

also cost of the monitor was 180 euros xd

and spent another 60 on new MBR, which as it showed I didn't need. Sweet PC troubleshooting.

With little help from my friend and also YOU I managed to built this by myself (my first build ever). 5 fans (3 for intake, 2 for outtake), I wanted 2 on the front, so I needed to change the front panel a little bit, in the future I plan to add some DIY lights into it from old christmas lights.

It can run WoT at Ultra Graphics at 60 FPS and also Minecraft on 140FPS, NFS Most Wanted 2012 on max details at 60 fps too so I'm satisfied.

Hope you like it xd

Got inspired by the DK05F desk but didn't want to put 2 computers in it, so made my own desk and replaced the left side with a drawer instead.

Built with 1.5mm sheet metal, 8mm glass and mahogny tabletops.
No fancy hardware and still need to get that last fan going.

Would like to watercool the GPU as well, but its a old 1080 and couldn't get a hold of a waterblock. Still able to do some gaming and work from home as a engineer.
I7-7700K CPU 4.2GHz

16GB RAM

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Aero OC

MSI H270 Gaming M# S-1151 ATX

Looking at this, I really need to start upgrading my PC. Just bought a house and PC components aren't really high on the priority list since the house needs a complete renovation.
(Thats why the floor moldings are missing, just put in a new floor)

Oh, I should send Linus my old rig when I finish building my new one... LOL... He'll probably strap it to a Tomahawk missile and fire it back at me.

I don't badmouth others' input, I'd appreciate others not badmouthing mine. *** More below ***

Not to necro this, but I don't think the video appears in youtube search results anymore lol, I wonder if it's the thumbnail, even though it's censored, and there's nothing on the mousepad anyways. No Nips. Maybe change it so Linus's face is covering the wrist rest?

Shame, was up to 5 million views, god bless Tatsumaki. Hope I make it into the next video now that I live in a van.

Even searching with the full title doesn't bring it up in Youtube

Actually this is super interesting and worth the necro, there's no video preview/Thumbnail in the google results, anyone seen that before?

Youtube does not like anime tiddies.
