Are defective parts covered under warranty?

Title. I'm having to buy my computer parts in two separate batches. 1st batch is for my psu, ram, and storage. And everything else coming March 2022. So what if I discover a defective part? I might have the possibilty to test my parts on my friends PC but if I don't, I won't know if they're defective until March. So do warranties typically cover defects out of the box?

That's why warranties exist, in case you get a defective product. So yes, if you don't wait too long to return a part, it'll be covered under warranty.

Product warranty covers defective products. 

 

Why not just save your money and wait until you can afford the computer to buy it? Unless you're planning on adding the ram and storage to your current PC in the meantime there's not much point buying them now and just having them sit in boxes in a cupboard for 6+ months.

Getting parts for Christmas from parents. Thought I'd abuse the fact that I know the budgets for them.

You would be best served by actually reading your warranty, rather than asking us here.

Test the parts as soon as you get them so you can return them if they are faulty and not use a warranty.

 

Half the computers I have build recently have had defective parts and it is usually the motherboard. 

With my last build all the parts were tested on a computer I built in 2018 and when I got the motherboard I tested it all again before putting it onto a case.

Fortunately everything worked perfectly.

Warranty = covers any mechanical failure that occurs in regular use. So anything that can be reasonable seen as error in manufacrtuing, quality of parts, failure in programming etc. that you as user have no actual access to.

 

Not warranty = any physical damage caused by you or others by non-regular use, mishandling, purposeful misuse etc. For example dropping of box, letting it get wet, applying too high overclocks etc. These could be covered by your home insurance. Though insurance usually has some gate that you need to pay for yourself and the costs above that only are what insurance actually covers.
