Honestly, it seems to be pretty good advice.

During the last year, there has been something like 20 different "dips" and every single time except one, it has bounced back after just a couple of days.

Meanwhile, pretty much all my stock are going down right now. If I was smart, I'd probably sell all my stock right now, buy bitcoin for all that money, and then swap back in like a couple of weeks when the stock is low and bitcoin is high. I am too risk averse to do that though.

But if it were ME, I would be liquidating and sinking money into home projects that cost money and hard assets like a new car (despite being stupidly expensive). I fear inflation is going to be a real #$%#&. If not a period of stagflation first, inflation will hit sooner or later IMHO 😨

Mine too, even though the companies I have stocks are on full demand... It just makes no sense.
The Evergrande thing with 300B in debt preparing for a default doesn't help.

It's because of Evergrande that stocks are dropping. China's economy is basically imploding into a blackhole, and the rest of the world is flirting with at edge of the event horizon.

many? How many? How many currencies fluctuate as much as bitcoin? Bitcoin isn't a currency, its a commodity like gold. Sure, it can be used to buy stuff, but thats not how its mainly used.

It will explain the fundamental issues of the ACH and how the blockchain and decentralization can help. Terrible security practices have nothing to do with crypto. In every case the weak link is humans not the crypto

I think people need to just realize what bitcoin is and the fact massive banks like JPmorgan, Fidelity, Wells Fargo, and many others offer crypto based investment accounts or how the market cap is over 2 Trillion dollars points to bitcoin being more than just a concept or fade. You seem to interchanging "blockchain" and "bitcoin". They aren't the same thing. Say "bitcoin" is the future and "blockchain" is the future is saying two completely different things.

Humans will always be the weakest link, there is no fixing that. No security will ever be 100% airtight, so without strong regulations, you know, what bitcoin lacks, there will always be significantly harsher losses from security breaches compared to that of traditional banking services.

The real-estate advice might be good though. But that is way too much for me. I got tens of thousands of dollars invested, not hundreds of thousands, which I would need for real estate. Or maybe you meant doing things like investing into the home you already got? I only got an apartment and that was fully renovated in 2017, so that's a no go for me. It's already in good condition. Might be a good idea for others though. Or just pay off some loans. Not sure how it is in other countries but in Sweden we have a very low interest rate right now on mortgages. Perfect time to reduce your loan.

Normally I would be agreeing with you, but drastic times calls for drastic measures. At least in the US, what we're witnessing in the auto market is crazy (to put it mildly). I personally know people that have a 1 to 2 year old truck or SUV that can get MORE for it USED if sold *right now*.

 

In many smaller dealerships (Nissan for example), normally the lot is full of cars. Now when I drive by, I see it mainly empty with a few used cars spread out. Basically, it now looks like a used car lot that's seen better days. That's probably the truth of it in fact. That dealer could fold tent.


It's a compounding issue where inventory is limited, inflation is high, and storms have flooded out used cars. I've personally heard stories in our area where people have been approached by strangers to buy their car outright. None have, and most likely a setup for an armed robbery. I don't see pricing getting rational for quite some time.

@StDragon I think that's gonna be mostly US.

Here in Spain the demand isn't really recovering (it is, but slooowly), so even though we are affected by the chip shortages, dealerships still have a lot of inventory.

cars are 90% of the time terrible investments, and so is expecting the current market conditions to continue, this easy money will end and market will collapse. as wages wont keep up with the inflation.

I would not be at all surprised if crypto found its way into banking. With all the work governments are putting into digital versions of their currency I think it's rather likely it will at some point. The idea of Bitcoin is fine I can see the benefits of crypto , but Bitcoin in its current form is not a sane way to go for worldwide banking. It uses way too much energy for what it does and it is slow. Had to do a quick search for its speed, but the 5 or so transactions per second that it does is laughable compared to the thousands of TPS that the current solutions can do. The energy argument is also extremely important. We can already hardly afford to do it (Bitcoin), let alone if the enitre world operated on it. Going green or nuclear would allow us to take that hit a little bit longer, but realistically we need a more efficient option. Luckily there are plenty of cryptos that are faster than Bitcoin.

Its their own responsibility to know what they are doing, and btw the bigger crypto sites have big warnings when you enter the leverage side of the site, if one just skips it that's on them.

Honestly, I think the endgame here is to get the idiot cryptobois to buy BTC and then cash out when the coin goes back up to 64K. Though a more reliable prediction is that BTC crashes to triple digits about 20 years out, and El Salvador goes bankrupt a few times in the process before finally dumping it.

 

Like just look at the logic of using a slow-to-trade, extremely volatile cryptocoin to do everyday transactions. It's simply never going to work, and in all honestly, it feels like municipal/state governments would be better off just buying and holding enough crypto for a "proof of stake" and then having people pay their property taxes by adding to the stake pool, and in turn the municipal/state governments just use it as a way for dealing with (their own, and owed) debt.

 

I'm very hard pressed to see any practical use for cryptocoins except to avoid the financing costs of dealing with a bank when you are trading real estate. It might work as a substitute for the bond market in places that are all junk bond rated.

 

And if any of that makes sense, I have not spent more than 10 minutes thinking about the logistics of it. The actual generation of coins is extremely wasteful and unless that changes, it's never going to be anything more than niche in a stable country.

I think crypto currency in general is a giant waste of time IMHO. The only positive use for blockchain is supply chain tracking. As in, it makes it easier and transparent as to where parts were sourced throughout a products manufacturing phase. It could also aid in tracking down parts sourced illegitimately and not just those from a defective bad batch. Would cut down piracy and fraud.

That sounds like a very local thing. There are shortages of cars in Sweden too, but used cars are still selling for less than new cars.

I guess it varies from country to country.

I would absolutely never recommend this for anyone unless they're using "fun money" (meaning: money they're using to pay for gambling and don't mind losing it all).

 

That's trying to time the market. Maybe you'll get lucky. Maybe you won't.

 

Historically speaking, it has pretty much always been a better plan to just hold through dips. It almost always work out to you having better returns than trying to time the market.

 

Now, using additional money to buy dips? Sure why not. But selling good investments (I'm assuming you have a widely diversified investment strategy that one could consider "good") to try and take advantage of a dip is just asking to have it backfire.

That's trying to time the market. Maybe you'll get lucky. Maybe you won't.

 

Historically speaking, it has pretty much always been a better plan to just hold through dips. It almost always work out to you having better returns than trying to time the market.

 

Now, using additional money to buy dips? Sure why not. But selling good investments (I'm assuming you have a widely diversified investment strategy that one could consider "good") to try and take advantage of a dip is just asking to have it backfire.

Even when you are trying to time the market, there are better and worse times and ways to do it. 

Like I said, bitcoin has dipped and bounced back like 20 times in the last year. It is very likely that it will bounce back soon. 

 

But I agree with you that you should not do what I mentioned unless you can lose the money, but the same can be said for pretty much all investments. 

Also, I hope the people who read my post noted that I said I would not do it myself because of the risks. 

 

I'll hold on to my stock and not buy any bitcoin. I'd rather take a slow and steady increase over a long period of time (30+ years) than spending time and energy trying to maximize my investments by constantly swapping them around.

Not surprised he'd say something like that, though historically Crypto has bounced back in every big drop thus far. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like every major crash doesn't drop below the previous crashes price level. 

 

Haven't touched anything crypto since Mt Gox days though, I'll stick with my stocks and futures.

ACH is also used for everything from 1$ soda purchases to $10,000 tech purchases, it uses energy because that's the cost of doing that scale of transactions. Where as all bitcoin does is burn large amounts energy for relatively few transactions at all.
