I've been thinking of buying the XPS17 but I hate the fact that it doesn't have a numpad...

Well, the fact is that I've only been thinking of buying one and I don't have the budget but I will not replace my current laptop unless I buy an XPS17 because it works pretty well for my day to day life and the only reason I want to buy the XPS is that I really really like it.

I use the numpad all the time and although I wouldn't say that I couldn't live without it but I really do like to have one when buying something else just like how Linus says not having a touch screen specially after using it for a long time would not feel super good.
I said all that to get to this question: Although I know there are basically no non apple laptops to compete with the feel and the quality of manufacturing of and XPS what is an alternative to it that has a numpad.(would be great if it is able to be charged while under heavy use too.)

If that's the only laptop you'll consider, then you'll just have to live with the fact that it doesn't have one.

If it bothers you that much, just buy an external one.

Well, I posted this topic to actually say that I don't want to only consider this laptop; and if you want to say "Then watch the videos about other laptops too and see which one you like." I would like to say that I have and not that I hated every single one of them but that not a lot of them were able to match the high standard that XPS has but that is a hot take just by watching a few videos and reading some things on the internet, having to read peoples experiences with other laptops and how they think of them might have a super different reaction in my mind and might make me consider buying something else and maybe even not want to buy the XPS!

While it certainly isn't impossible to find a laptop with a numpad, it will absolutely limit your options. I'd weigh that against the use you get of the numpad and whether using an external one would be a reasonable solution for you.

Yes, I have considered buying an external one but I just want to know which laptops you guys think might be good and also having a numpad.

I completely understand why and how it's not as important and why I shouldn't care as I don't but I just wanted to see what kind of laptops people might suggest.

The issue with the numpad on laptops for me is that all the other times when you're not using the numpad your wrists are going to be at an awkward angle. 

 

I'm kinda over them. If you really need it, an external one is the way to go, imo.

That is an interesting take, considering that I've only had experience with a super tiny 10 inch laptop-tablet(without numpad) and a normal sized 15 inch with a numpad I've never realized that. I've used the numpad a lot since it came to my life and it's hard for me to imagine it going and then me having to search for the numbers on the top with two hands but I think the external numpad still saves the day.

It may be shallow or possibly neurotic but the keyboard being off center on laptops with numpads is enough for me to avoid them.
