Thermalright coolers for 5600x?

Im gonna assume you wont overclock so any of those will do just fine, though the peerless assasin and frost spirit are wayyy overkill

5600X don't need a massive cooler like that. This also will do that easy job. And even this one is sufficient.

thank you!

I am using the PBO option in the BIOS, not manually OCing, and with the stock cooler I'm hitting 95C and then throttling so I guess it would've gone higher

So it made me believe that these "65w" Zen3 aren't really like Intel's 65w.. I think AMD is somehow misinforming us regarding TDP/transistor size.

So I'm afraid if I get "good enough" CPU cooler it will either still get warm, or be loud because its fans will work hard to cool it

This thing is behaving just like Intel's 14mm 11600K. But I guess that helps them in sales

Still more efficient than intel but i think its just pbo boosting the absolute sht out of the cpu hence the high temps

A cheap tower like the se 224 xt is good enough to cool the 5600x

Tdp's from Intel and AMD are meaningless. 11900k is listed on Intel's site as 95w TDP, actual power draw full load is ~200w. 3600 "65w TDP" Power draw a bit over 105w full load.

You're best off setting the temperature throttle limit to 83-85, it keeps the cpu from dumping clocks to manage heat. *And going with a non-stock cooler

so if I get one of these overkills, (se 224 xt is not available to me right now), at this price, is there anything better? It looks better than the Arctic 34 duo at the same price and equivalent to the Fuma 2 at lower cost.

Unless something is bad about these, for example noisy fans? I do want silent fans as much as possible, because what's weird is that when I use headphones, the humming of the stock fan right now is more apparent compared to when not using headphones (I'm not gaming so there is no sound to mask it)

Should i just go with either Fuma 2 or Mugen5 Rev.B? (Or even Ninja5 - they're around the same price)

I'm definitely gonna get a non-stock cooler with these temps

Overkill but if you want really good temps + silence then why the hell not?

Plus pbo might be able to make the cpu boost higher

FC140 works awesome on my 5600X. That 65w cpu can hit 140w ppt if you push it.

FC means Frost Commander? It's one of the more expensive coolers in their line right? How's the noise btw?

Yes, sorry 🤭

PA120 would be my next choice, but yes FC140 is a beast 🙂

Noise is not bad at all..

look at that beauty white:

https://www.amazon.com/Thermalright-White-Heatpipes-Aluminium-Technology/dp/B08XM557HS/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=white+cpu+cooler&qid=1631876283&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFPUE1QMDBLOUVJTTAmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAwOTM0NDQzUUxINkU5NU84VEdBJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA1MTU5NjAxNThSR0UwVFdMV1kxJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

I came across Thermalright by chance, as I never saw someone actually recommending them, wondering why, since they are close to all the budget coolers in price but perform better? Close to high end Noctuas even? (as seen in reviews)

Edit:

Example of a review:

Quote

I tested this against the Scythe Fuma 2 and it beat it pretty decidedly. I was a little surprised because I expected them to be comparable. Temps on my 5800X @ 4.42Ghz with Prime95 Small FFT hit about 92C on the Fuma 2, the PA120 temps settle in at about 87.5 C.

For 40$? definitely a buy

Thermalright has been around for a couple of decades now. They were making high end coolers before Noctua was a company. The first time I saw a Noctua review it was like looking at a Thermalright cooler. The shape was different, but techniques used were very similar. I always give Noctua a hard time. Their North American distribution kind of sucks, though looks like its improving slightly.

I was suggested here to get several other coolers for my 5600x.

But then I saw these:

Thermalright Frost Spirit 140 Black V3

Thermalright Peerless Assassin

Thermalright TR-TA140 EX

And they have a few more.

Anyone has experience with these?

I run a frost spirit 140 on my 5600x. Way overkill stock, but you can turn the fans way down and go silent.

I was just running a quick test on my memory. I forgot to adjust chassis fan 2, so my sticks got a little warm. I think FC140 does an ok job even with my 5900.

Wow few decades, didn't know. good to know that they are that good

The only reason I even thought about new cooler is because as soon as I insatlled my PC, I turned on the "Gaming" option in BIOS (Which turned out to be Precision Boost Overdrive) and it made temp 80+ and on Prime95 it throttled (95C)

Why you run it on stock btw if there is a nice auto overclock?

I found FC140 with 5600X running an all core static clock of 4700MHz running OCCT. I did this last April I think..

Nice, where did you find this image. Also - what did you do last April?

And look at the funny way Thermalright official video shows how to apply thermalpaste: (At 01:25)

By stock I mean pbo, not manually oc'd. With pbo on, I never go above 69c with the fans silent.

The 'Gaming Option' is a oc preset from the manufacturer. It's generally not a very efficient way to oc and easily explains the high temps.

If you just want PBO, you can just enable PBO.

Got it.

By the way, I think I found a flaw in the Peerless Assassin:

Many reviews in Amazon complain that the fans are very noisy with annoying high-pitched sound, which can be a deal breaker:

For mine it was the small fan, it went away after a day or so. And it only happened at 1800 rpm or so. I use the fans that came with FC140 as case fans now and run them as fast as they go when I need to.

It is the optimal way to apply thermal paste on modern ryzen chips without doing the spread

I have a pa120 cooling my 5900x and it keeps it well below the throttle temp of 90*c. It is currently the best value cooler I can find in the market.
