My Laptop is Crippling , Help Me :(

So the title is unexaggerated.

My Laptop is an absolute hot pile of garbage to use.

Its not like I bought it in 2005 or something, it was purchased in May 2020.

HP 14q cs0007TU

4GB Ram

1TB HDD

Intel i5 8250u

Intel Integrated Graphics 620 UHD

The laptop has a reasonable boot time of about 1 - 2 minutes , but this wasn't a case a month ago when it used to take between 30 to 50 minutes to boot , but a windows reinstall solved it.The experience before the reinstall is something i would like to not talk about to prevent myself from falling into seizures

Since then , I have reacquired my programs like Brave, Chrome, Blender, Python, C++, Java, VSCode, Atom, Git, Zoom, Fusion , Eagle, After Effects and what not.

The user experience is very very slow. It can take anywhere from 10 - 30 seconds for the start menu to come up after I click the windows button. Browser windows get stuck often and many times even just windows explorer window open can also be very slow if not completely frozen. There isn't much going on in the background tasks although , the System, Antimalware Service Executable, Windows Modules Installer Service have been dominating my disk usage. I tried to schedule the AME to only run when I'm idle but that didn't change anything. I disabled updates frustrated from the updates popups removing the WMIS.

My dad accuses me of destroying it by installing software , apparently I wasn't supposed to do that on a laptop which costed 560 Dollars.

So the question is , Is the software installed the real problem here?

If you don't happen to know these software. None of them are those filthy 3rd party pirated, unknown ,undocumented softwares .......

If it uses more than 4gb RAM, then yes it's the problem.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

You've got 4GB RAM, Windows will use almost all that for itself.  Anything you try to run will be RAM starved.

Bump to AT LEAST 8GB or even more if you can afford it.

Get an SSD as well, running off a HDD is slow these days.

For a May 2020 laptop, it's barebones and already underpowered.  For the software you're using you should have bought a more robust machine, so your dad isn't necessarily wrong, he just phrased it poorly.

Very peculiar that applications which are actually rated for 8GB of RAM run fine on the system. The real problem is Actually in the lower spec-ed software.

Excluding Aftereffects which i use very rarely , other softwares are rated for 4GB.

Well, the programs can run on 4GB but the things they do, depending on what you make them do, can need more.

For example, if you're editing a photo and applying alot of effects, it can need a boatload of RAM.

RAM + SSD.  That's my opinion for your needs.

You may have processes running in the background.  Like I said, Windows will use 4GB doing whatever the hell it does (Windows is ridiculous at times),

When it's slow, take screenshots of Task Manager so we can see what's going on.  Also the % usage tabs too.

Get more ram and a SSD, The boot times should be faster and the system should be more responsive overall, and the ram will help with running some apps and background processes

Did you do the windows  reinstall and following installation of programs recently? Windows could also be trying to rebuild it's search indexes in the background which will cause slowdown.

SSD would help most in that case, or just letting it sit for a few hours
