Air cooling suggestion for overclock

Go to solution Solved by Jeppes,

Arctic Freezer 34, Deepcool Gammaxx gt for about 25-35€ should be enough. Thermalright pa120 or Scythe Fuma 2 for about 50-60€ if you want to spend more than needed.

Hi everyone, I'd like to ask which air cooler I should buy to keep the cpu cool while overclocking using the XMP profile which will increase the ram too, since the stock cooler may not be a good fit.

Here are the specs, a budget pc for what I needed

- Case: Aerocool QS-240 Micro ATX (kinda regret but I just roll with it, surely don't recommend at all IMO)

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3100

- RAM: G.Skill 16GB DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8) *set manually at 2666Mhz atm*

- GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GT 730 2GB ZONE edition

- MOBO: MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX

- Storage: Kingston A2000 SSD 250gb +  Seagate BarraCuda HDD 1TB

- Power Supply: Corsair CX450M

I did try the XMP with the stock cooler, but unfortunately it was reaching 50° while idle, so not even doing anything at all, surely the stock cooler could be enough, and the temperature may not be so bad, yet it makes me uneasy to run it while it reaches such temperatures. Right now run at 34° idle using the settings above mentioned, the performance I could gain could not be noticeable, but at that point I might try to overclock instead of thinking about a new build, since it could be pointless at the moment for my needs.

I was thinking about the "Noctua NH-U14S", that had positive reviews, or more likely budget related the "be quiet! Shadow Rock Slim 2" or "be quiet! pure rock slim", tho the Noctua might not fit in such a thight case, and buying the be quiet! cooler without an opinion from more expert people could end up a waste of money if there was better options out here.

*I live in Italy, as a price check if you need*

A 3100 isn't going to put out any significant heat, overclocked or not, so it doesn't really matter. Any good single tower cooler will do.
